I was on my daily scroll in Pinterest and stumbled upon beautifully decorated pages of a book. Eventually, it led me to keep clicking on these pages and I got inspired to do something like that. I looked up journaling and came across scrapbooking.
At first, I was unsure of the idea of it and thought it was something only children would do. I mean pasting cute paper cut-outs and stickers onto books? At least, that was what I thought. However, as I kept scrolling and reading up about it, I became more interested and decided to do something similar.
I started getting supplies to start my own scrapbook such as stickers, washi tape, stamps, and coloured markers. Since then, I continued scrapbooking and found out that it has so many benefits. I must admit that scrapbooking made me into a better person for myself.
It Helps Relieve Stress
Though many may think that scrapbooking is just pasting random stickers and on journal pages. But it is more than that. Scrapbooking has helped me relieve quite a fair bit amount of stress. But how?
It is pretty therapeutic if you ask me. I decorate pages of my scrapbook based on different colours. Each page sticks to one colour. This way, I am able to ensure that after I finish the entire book and flip it through, it looks aesthetically pleasing. This to me, help to reduce my stress. It is like a creative process and I am just letting out my creative juices.
It Is Like Meditation
Scrapbooking is a type of activity that keeps me focused on one thing. I had to figure out the perfect place to stick images, stickers, and washi tape. I had to think of the placement of things, the size of coloured paper I have to cut out for the pages and so on.
Though it seems like many things to do, it really does keep me distracted from the real world. I do not have to meet the expectation of others. I also do not have to follow the rules. Scrapbooking allows me to set my own rules.
Enhances Creativity
There are so many types of scrapbooking in terms of the design, format, theme and more. Scrapbooking has allowed me to expand my creative thinking skills. I get to explore the different themes that I can include in my scrapbook.
I also started learning hand lettering which is pretty cool. It adds to the overall aesthetic of my scrapbook. I am still learning and improving my hand lettering skills, but I am getting there, hopefully.
Helps Mark Important Events, Dates And Memories
Scrapbooking not only contains random stickers and quotes, but it can also include photographs. Though I have yet to include them, I believe that it would set a good reminder of the wonderful memories I had with those I love.
If I were to flip it through, I would definitely recall these memories and feel blessed and remember all the amazing things that has happened to me and be thankful for the people who have been with me throughout. I do think that it also acts as a form of appreciation. It is important to me because these are the moments that brought a smile to my face.
It Makes Me Happy
This activity has definitely improved my emotional health as well. I feel so much happier now that I have found something that helps me pay attention to myself and to let my creativity flow. I guess ultimately, we should all do things that make us happy.
I am glad that I stumbled upon scrapbooking. Though there are other ways to improve my emotional health, I have to say that scrapbooking is one of the best.
With all these benefits in mind, share this with a friend or two and start scrapbooking perhaps, or you could just simply find something that makes you feel happy!
