There’s a lot to like about old school snacks and candies, I think it’s mainly because they bring back so many happy memories. Simply walk down to the following old school confectionaries still doing what they do best here in Singapore to take a journey down memory lane and enjoy those wonderful treats you may have gobbled excessively as a child.

Teck Leong Lee Kee

This long-running wholesale chocolate and candy confectioner, located within Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park, has been around since 1968 and never runs out of distinctive Asian treats such Asam Seed with Malt Candy and Kopiko Cappuccino Candy. They even sell old school toys. So, grab boxes of the Bestman Balloon to blow up vintage balloons, as well as the Styrofoam Paper Plane to fling around with pals, if you’re throwing a ‘90s-themed party.

Location: 5029 Ang Mo Kio Ind Park 2, #01-141, Singapore 569532

Operating Hours: 10.00am-4.00pm (Mon – Sun)

Biscuit King

Biscuit King is one of the most well-known stores on our list, and its enormous. Located in Upper Thompson, it is recognized for its wide selection of classic treats. Tins and tubs of traditional treats such as chocolate cream cookies, animal crackers, and prawn pillows cover the shop’s walls. If you don’t feel like dragging a whole metal can of cookies home, you can opt for smaller packaging for your convenience. There are also buckets filled with a variety of brightly coloured goodies. You can even mix and combine these items according to your liking.

If you feel that bringing yourself to Biscuit King might be a chore, don’t worry. They operate an online store which means that you can purchase treats from the comfort of your home.

Location: 130 Casuarina Rd, Singapore 579518

Operating Hours: 11.00am-10.00pm (Tue – Sun)

90s Candy Society

90s Candy Society is an online snack store where you may select and choose anything you want. They sell classic toys and games like Happy Family cards, kuti kuti, and magnetic Ludo boards, in addition to a range of treats including sunflower seed chocolate, haw flakes, and potato starch wheels.

The unique thing about this store is their approach to selling their confectionaries online. If you like surprises, they also offer specifically curated goodie box subscriptions, in which you will get a box of handpicked goodies at the beginning of each month. With this, you will learn more about traditional Singapore snacks.

Nelly’s Retro Snacks

Nelly’s Retro Snacks, nestled away in Yishun Junction 9, will send you on a shopping spree with over 500 types of retro sweets, cookies, keropoks, and toys to choose from. Get your fill of tasty treats here, with cookies stashed in golden boxes strewn over the store. Fish biscuits, stick biscuits, and jam-filled biscuits are all on the menu.

Location: Junction 9, 18 Yishun Avenue 9 #01-49 S768897

Opening Hours: 9.00am-10.00pm (Mon-Sun)

Although Singapore is much more developed than it was in the 80s and 90s, we should not let our culture die with all the globalisation that comes with being a well-developed country. With the help of this list, put down that Oreo and pick up a yummy jam biscuit instead.
