As an incoming Nanyang Technological University (NTU) freshman who needs to choose a university camp soon, I’ve done my homework and chatted with seniors. Hopefully, this guide will help you out too!

Club Camp

Usually, club camps are the first ones to come up. These clubs include the Cultural Activities Club (CAC), Welfare Services Club (WSC), Students’ Union (SU), and Sports Club (SC). Here’s a quick rundown:

  • CAC : Perfect for those interested in co-curricular activities like symphonic band, emceeing, or Chinese dance.
  • SC : Ideal for the athletic types who love sports and physical activities.
  • WSC : Great for those passionate about volunteering and community service.
  • SU : Suited for those interested in leadership roles and student governance.

Choosing which camp to join depends on your interests. Participating in these camps can help you make friends and build a network within the clubs, although it’s not compulsory. It’s a fantastic opportunity to broaden your social circle!

Hall Camp

Hall camp is for those interested in joining a hall. You can choose to join the camp for the hall you desire to stay in.

This is quite important because there are often many hall activities, and for those who stay for a long time, building a good relationship with your hall mates is crucial.

Your hall mates become like neighbours, making these connections valuable.

School Camp

School camp is the most important one. Much of your university life will revolve around your school, including lessons, classmates, and project mates. It’s essential to bond with these people, as they will be a significant part of your academic journey.

With all these camps, it can be difficult to decide which to join. I would say school camp is a must, while hall and club camps are more optional.

It’s great if you can attend all three, but it can get tiring, so maybe choosing two will suffice. I hope you choose the right camps for you and have a great university life!
