Celebrate the women in your life for their efforts and contributions. Your sisters, mother, aunts, cousins and many others. These are people who have done so much for you and for our community. From their home-cooked food, to doing daily chores. Some work tough jobs to help sustain the family. These women are willing to push their limits to ensure the best for you and for those around them.
Despite the current pandemic, Singapore is still taking steps to celebrate International Women’s Day. To commemorate the efforts and achievement of women, several events have been organised through the various industries.
Film
The Francophonie Festival has made its way to Singapore all the way from France. This year, movie fanatics can look forward to free movie screenings of Long Way North (2015), and The Angel in the Clock (2017). These films feature female leads on a journey to self discovery and finding their loved ones.
With the large number of female talents in the film industry, The Projector at Kallang will also be screening a variety of films. For entertainment at the comfort of your own home, it will also be available on The Projector Plus. Some movies include Promising Young Woman, Madeline’s Madeline and Capernaum.
Leisure and Travel
The Zafferano’s Terrace Lounge is also hoping onto the bandwagon by introducing special offers on this special day, complete with breath-taking view of the Singapore skyline. Complete your night with complimentary pizzas for every wine bottle purchased.
Fairmount Singapore is taking International Women’s Day to a higher level. It will offer a Special Drink Menu for the entire month of March created exclusively by Anti:dote’s star bartender, Angela Chen.
Food
Talking about the different cuisines available in Singapore, restaurants around Singapore are coming up with new menu items, showing appreciation to the women community in Singapore.
Neon Pigeon is taking this special day to the streets of Tokyo with izakaya. While diners indulge in their meals, hit tracks from 90s girl groups, Spice Girls, TLC and Salt-n-Pepa. Their dishes include the famous katsu sando and the Birdfeed Benedict; poached egg covered in yuzu hollandaise with unagi and spinach.
Let us take this up a notch with Xperience Restaurant serving their pink-themed lunch menu. Called Pink Ladies Long Lunch, this menu set would definitely capture the eyes of women. As you satisfy your tastebuds with the dishes served, you will also be contributing 10 per cent to Aware SG, Association of Women for Action and Research.
Sports
The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is celebrating International Women’s Day with several virtual races, workshops, challenges and many more. In addition, female athletes, Sofie Chandra, Cheryl Tay and Choo Ling Er will be sharing their experience and struggles of being in the sports industry.
Business and Entrepreneurship
While we are all hooked up on TikTok dance trends, female entrepreneurs and lady bosses are taking TikTok by storm with #WhenWomenWin. These women have made an impact on TikTok via their homebased business and creative content, namely, Vidhi (founder of XVXII), Iman Fandi (Model-popstar) and Felicia (Founder of Oyo Beauty)
With all these events taking place in Singapore, International Women’s Day has definitely made its mark, doing its part to celebrate the efforts and contributions of women all over the world. So, take part to show your support and gratitude towards the women in your life.
