Did you know, Changi was once a swampland known as Tanjong Rusa before being renamed Tanjong Changi in the early nineteenth century? Being a blend of old and new, here are some things to discover and explore during your weekend.

Changi Beach Park

Changi Beach Park, unlike East Coast Park, has an unique kampong atmosphere. You’ll notice it as soon as your toes dip into the white sand. In fact, we highly recommend that if you want to avoid the weekend crowds, this park is your best choice. Rent bikes for the family and ride the surrounding Park Connectors, or book one of the 20 barbeque pits scattered around the park for a nice lunch. Point to note: it’s simpler to get one here because most people rush to the East Coast counterpart.

Location: Nicoll Dr, Singapore 498991

Opening Hours: 24/7

Burger & Lobster

Opt for London’s Burger & Lobster’s first Singapore restaurant, located at Jewel Changi Airport’s highest level, for a more upscale meal. Steamed or grilled lobsters from Canada are served with a side of fries and a garden salad on its trademark lobster platters ($65). Otherwise, try the buttery brioche lobster roll ($40) or the Nebraskan beef burgers ($25) with house-made pickles, onions, and secret sauce. While dining, you may enjoy beautiful views of the Shiseido Forest Valley and the HSBC Rain Vortex as well.

Location: 78 Airport Blvd., #05-203, Singapore 819666

Opening Hours: 11.00am – 9.30pm (Mon – Thu), 11.00am – 10.00pm (Fri – Sun)

Changi Airport Connector

The new 3.5-kilometer Changi Airport Connector allows you to bike, skate, run, jog, and stroll from East Coast Park or any of the Park Connector Network (PCN) to Jewel Changi Airport and the terminals, and vice versa. It also features Changi Jurassic Mile, the city’s largest permanent outdoor display of life-sized dinosaurs, as well as Hub & Spoke, a pit stop facility where you can hire bicycles (starting from $6) from GoCycling and cool off with a pay-per-use shower (from $3) after a session that also serves great food.

Location: Airport Blvd Singapore 819643

Opening Hours: 24/7

Hanamco

This vintage Changi Village pub provides notable dishes including classic fish and chips ($18.90), lasagne ($15.90), and BYOB (build your own burger) burgers for you to eat while watching your favourite football or rugby team on TV. Gulp it all down with a specially shaken or stirred cocktail or a pint of your favourite beer, such as Tuas Brewing Co’s Singapore Lager, Miller Genuine Draft, or Grolsch Premium Lager.

Location: 5 Changi Village Rd, Singapore 500005

Opening Hours: 3.00pm – 1.00am (Wed – Mon)

The Pokémon Centre Singapore

The Pokémon Centre Singapore, the first of it’s kind outside of Japan, is a one-stop shop for all things Pokémon. Plush toys, video games, trading cards, clothing and almost all things Pokémon related are available here. This official merchandise store resembles those in Japan, but the Jewel Changi Airport edition also sells Singapore-only official items, so if you’re a big fan, you’ll definitely want to collect ’em all.

Location: 78 Airport Blvd., #04 – 201 & 202, Singapore 819666

Opening Hours: 10.00am – 10.00pm (Mon – Sun)

If you are someone who loves to make the fullest of your weekend, head on down to any of these places and have the time of your life. Just be sure to be adventurous and explore the surrounding area’s as you never know what hidden gem you might stumble upon.
