In celebration of Singapore’s 57th birthday, enjoy 8 of Penang Culture’s local favourite dishes at $5.70 each (UP $5.90 to $10.90) when you dine in! For delivery, you can get them as a bundle for $57.
Here are the mains, sides, drinks and desserts on offer!
Chicken Basil Rice with Egg
This is one of the most worth-it dishes on the seasonal menu, best if you’re looking for a quick one-plate meal! The rice is served alongside a fragrant basil chicken sauce and a sunny side up egg, with some cucumber slices on the side.
The sauce was fragrant, deeply savoury and flavourful, which we thought was delicious eaten with the rice. The little chicken pieces inside were tender too, making this dish very enjoyable.
Thai Style Glass Noodles
This dish features glass noodles and lots of beansprouts tossed together in a spicy Thai sweet chilli-flavoured sauce, topped with crunchy shrimp. Non-chilli eaters bewarned, this is rather spicy—as someone who can’t take spice, I could enjoy a few mouthfuls but had to stop for a drink after that.
Aside from the spice levels, this dish was cool and refreshing with a very tasty sauce (one of our favourite flavours from the meal)!
Stir Fry Satay Chicken with Ketupat
Again, this is another well-seasoned dish. The satay chicken was well-marinated and full of the classic satay flavour, especially when dipped in the peanut sauce. You can definitely tell it’s made to taste like it’s straight off the grill, and not some reinterpretation of the classic street food.
Tahu Goreng
This features fried tahu topped with Penang Culture’s signature homemade peanut sauce. We appreciated the well-executed frying, which allowed the dish to have tahu that is beautifully fried on the outside while still moist on the inside.
Bittergourd Egg
This features a classic combination of bittergourd fried with egg. This is a great dish even for non-bittergourd eaters, because the egg is fragrant without absorbing the bitterness of the vegetable! If you do enjoy bittergourd, this dish has the vegetable thoroughly cooked and moist.
Garlic Chicken with Thai Mango Sauce
Fried chicken lovers will love this dish, as the crust is extremely crunchy with a deeply garlicky flavour. The Thai mango sauce is reminiscent of a mango salad, with strips of shredded cucumber and mango soaked in Penang Culture’s homemade tangy sauce.
Mug Root Beer Floats
You get 2 drinks for the price of $5.90, which is a great deal! The root beer comes with crushed ice instead of cubes, making it easy to drink and eat together with the creamy ice cream it’s topped with.
King of Bubur Hitam
This presents a unique combination of bubur hitam (black glutinous rice) and durian! That’s right, this bowl adds a generous scoop of durian puree to the classic local dessert, making it a luxurious way to end off your meal.
