We were first introduced to Venom in Spider-Man 3 starring Tobey Maguire who played Peter Parker/Spider-Man. In the film, Peter exposed Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) for portraying Spider-Man as a villain through some of the images he took as a photographer for Daily Bugle. The publisher then fired Eddie and promoted Peter to staff photographer.
This was due to being influenced by the symbiote and after Peter extracted the symbiote, Eddie became the new host and became the character we all know as Venom.
The First Venom Movie
However, Eddie and Venom’s story did not end there. Venom was released in 2018, starring Tom Hardy as Eddie. The film dives into the life of Eddie Brock and his encounter with a symbiote, turning him into Venom. He had been through some tough times during the film.
Venom offers to spare Eddie if he helps the symbiotes achieve their goal. The two then went against the fourth symbiote, Riot who bonded with Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), in order to protect the Earth from other symbiotes.
Towards the end of the film, Anne believes that Eddie and Venom are no longer bonded. However, the two were still bonded secretly and set to protect San Francisco by killing criminals.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
In the mid-credits of the first movie, Eddie is seen interviewing one of the most notorious serial killer, Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who promised ‘carnage’ when he finally escapes.
I believe this next film will pick up from the mid-credit scenes and we will get to understand a little bit more about this ‘carnage’ Cletus is talking about. The trailer was release on May 10th, 2021, by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
In the trailer, we are able to get a sense of what is going to happen. There are several sneak peaks of some action scenes. We also get to see Cletus Kasady in action. Since the film revolves around symbiotes, Cletus is seen becoming another one of Venom’s kind, just larger and maybe a little more powerful.
Comics
Cletus was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #344 in March 1991 as the first and most infamous host of the Carnage symbiote, an offspring to Venom. He bonded with Carnage while sharing a cell with Eddie and eventually got out using the super-human abilities granted by it.
Cletus had a bad start to life and was born in a psychiatric prison. As a child, he did terrible things and was sent to St. Estes Home for Boys. He grew up and became a serial killer and was soon captured and sent to Ryker’s Island Prison for 11 murders. He then bonded with the symbiote and caused ‘Carnage’.
I am pretty excited to see how the movie turns out. After viewing the first movie, I was really hoping for the sequel to be released and soon, I will be able to watch it in the cinemas. Venom: Let There be Carnage will be released in September this year. I am pumped!
