Originated from India, South Africa and the Middle East, henna art has definitely made its mark on a global scale. People all over the world are starting to express themselves with the use of henna on their skin.
I came across henna back when I was a little girl. Every year for Hari Raya, I would ask my aunt to design the back of my hands with henna. I was then inspired to try it out on my own. During my days in ITE, I volunteered to help out at a henna booth during a carnival that took place. My love for henna grew and I am currently starting a henna service business.
I have always been inspired by Singapore’s talented henna artists who have embrace this traditional form of art and they never fail to impress their customers. Let’s look at some of the henna artists and the service they provide here in Singapore.
SyraSkins (Mehroon and Syra Gulam)
SyraSkins was the first henna service company that I came across. I have used the henna cones they sell, and I love it. Not only do they sell henna cones and offer henna service for their customers, but they also provide henna courses for those who are interested.
Their service is most popular during the festive months of Ramadan and Syawal (Hari Raya Aidilfitri). However, their customers keep coming back for more even after the festive season. That is how talented these artists are. They offer several types of henna cones such as the natural henna cone, Jagua henna, white henna, henna for hair and more.
You can check out their designs over at their Instagram page. Their designs are extremely beautiful – I live. For beginners, they also have an E-book to guide you through the process.
Khair Henna (Khairunnisa Chow)
I discovered Khair Henna after I graduated from ITE. I was looking for more henna services and came across it. So naturally I clicked on it, and I was swooned by the designs they create.
Khair Henna was established in 2014, who was a freelance henna artist who was only known by the people around her. However, she decided to extend her service and eventually pursued henna full-time.
When I first found out about her, I immediately when to her Instagram page and fell in love once again. The designs are just perfect – the lines, flowers, mandalas. There is just something about Khair Henna’s design that can’t keep my eyes off of them.
Its Hennaflair (Azzah Atifah)
Its Hennaflair was actually the most recent henna service provider I came across via TikTok. Owned by Azzah Atifah, Its Hennaflair has definitely attracted many customers. Just recently during Ramadan, my TikTok For You Page was flooded with her content and I was living for it.
I then went over to Instagram to follow her page. She provides both Jagua and Natural henna cones. Apart from that she also provided henna workshops for those who are interested. A few of my friends went down to her booth during Ramadan to get their henna done. She is truly such a talented individual.
These are three of my favourite henna artists and service providers. They have inspired me since I started doing henna for my family and friends. Hopefully in the near future, I would, just like them, expand my henna business.
Share this with your friends and family and support our local henna artists and service providers. Get your henna done by these talented individuals as a form of self-expression or just to embrace the beauty of it!
