Salt & Palm in quaint Joo Chiat presents a theme in line with the decadent feasts of Christmas, featuring a selection of unique and curated cheeses to satisfy its patrons. Their new limited seasonal menu is available for both their Day and Dinner menus from now till 31 December 2023.
The classic pairing of cheese and wine, a timeless combination, takes center stage at the wine bar, offering delectable cheesy small plates to whet the appetite, an array of exceptional natural wines, and an overall feel-good ambiance.
Guests can anticipate four indulgent creations, starting with the savoury Cheese Choux Puffs ($15). These crispy, cheesy bites boast a delightful smokiness and an intense sweetness.
The choux puffs are crafted by initially cooking them with gruyere cheese, then filling them with Bastoncino Affumicato Cheese and Caciocavallo Silano Cheese custard. A touch of vegemite is added to balance the rich flavours with an umami twist.
The Cheese Tempura ($12) consists of two pieces, each featuring a different variety of cheese (Bastoncino Affumicato and Caciocavallo Silano DOP) from Italy, deep-fried to a perfect golden hue.
Fresh jackfruit and ice plant adds a subtle sweetness to these golden bites, which are then crowned with serundeng – spicy toasted coconut slivers, a drizzle of lime calamansi and a side of pineapple sambal that lends depth to the dish.
The airy Knafeh ($15) consists of Arabic Kataifi “string” pastry blended with brown butter and then filled with mozzarella and cream cheese before being pan-seared to a crisp, golden brown.
A decadent spread of gula melaka provides the dish with a modern Asian twist, and it is adorned with a crunchy macadamia crumble and a refreshing quenelle of acai to brighten the overall experience.
The classic Cheese Platter ($38) features three specialty cheeses – Manchego Black Garlic from Spain, Vacherousse from France, and La Gabelou from Germany (subject to seasonal availability).
This delightful platter is complemented with a trio of Pecan, Pistachio, and Macadamia nuts, along with a trio of berries, including red currants, blueberries, and gooseberries paired with a pineapple sambal, jackfruit jam, and crackers for a unique experience.
