Are you obsessed with our adorable little furry feline friends? Well, you are in luck. In collaboration with Japanese artist, Juno, The Malay Heritage Centre is decorating the building’s lawn with a cat installation to pay tribute to five regular visitors to the centre.
Providing cultural exposure and learning opportunities for all visitors, regardless of age and interest, the centre acts as a heritage institution for the Malay community in this little red dot through several programmes via exhibits and activities.
Located in Istana Kampong Glam, visitors get to also explore buildings prominent in the Malay-Muslim community such as the Sultan Mosque Furthermore, visitors can also explore colourful lanes and shop for goods along Bussorah Street and Haji Lane.

Learn Malay Proverbs
Visitors also have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and learn more about the Malay language. Proverbs used in the Malay language with reference to cats are also displayed alongside the standees which allows attendees a chance to learn about proverbs used in Malay literature.
An example of a Malay proverbs featuring cats or ‘kucing’ is ‘bagai mengail kucing hanyut’ which translates to ‘a wasted act or deed’. Another example would be, ‘malu-malu kucing‘ which translates to ‘like a shy cat’ which is used to describe someone who pretends to be shy.
Fringe Activities
Visitors will also have the chance to participate in other fringe activities, such as a storytelling performance titled ‘The Lure of the Feline.’ This is a great opportunity to learn more about how cats and their traits are incorporated into the Malay community through the language used. With tickets sold at an affordable price, catch there performances, taking place twice a week.
For a more interactive experience, visitors can also participate in a weekly sticker hunt starting on March 16th, 2021. In addition, participants will stand chances of winning gifts such as cat badges specially made by Juno.
