Throughout the year of 2020, Netflix has been our dependable companion, bringing much-needed relief from the frantic chaos we know as Covid-19. We’ve got even more binge-worthy shows to look forward this season, June 2021. Here is a list of 5 Netflix shows you mustn’t miss out on.
Eden
Eden is a dystopian science fiction anime series directed by Yasuhiro Irie and, conceived and produced by Justin Leach. Although, this project takes on the CGI (computer generated imagery) format of animation, which may seem childish, the story makes up for it. The series is set a thousand years in the future, in Eden 3, a city populated completely by AI robots whose old masters have long since departed. Two maintenance robots unwittingly awaken a human newborn girl from hibernation, causing them to rethink everything they’d been taught, that humans were nothing more than a forbidden urban legend. The pair then discreetly raises the child outside of Eden in a protected sanctuary, and the story snowballs from there.
Love, Death & Robots
When you grant Black Mirror an animated makeover, you get Love, Death, & Robots. Similar to The Girl From Nowhere, every episode takes on a different story and characters always change, so we can’t exactly tell you what it is about. However, the only thing that remains the same is the NSFW themes every episode takes on. If u like wicked surprises and dark comedy, this is the show for you. For its second season, the animated series has finally identified what works, which means fewer episodes but greater quality in production. The series is definitely easy to binge in one sitting, from the Wall-E-esque Automated Customer Service to the grimly dystopian Pop Squad, this show never fails to interest the masses.
Jupiter’s Legacy
Jupiter’s Legacy is an American superhero drama series produced by Steven S. DeKnight and based on the Mark Millar and Frank Quitely comic book franchise. The story follows the world’s first generation of superheroes, who turn to their offspring to carry on their legacy. As the young would-be heroes struggle to live up to their parents’ reputations and aspirations, tensions build as they try to break free from their parents’ shadow. It perfectly embodies the jam-packed action you would get with traditional superhero shows while also tackling issues a regular teenager would have to face that you should definitely check out.
Dota: Dragon’s Blood
You don’t have to be a fan of the video game to appreciate Dota: Dragon’s Blood’s universe. The story follows Davion, a dragon knight, who must find a way to exorcise an elder dragon that has possessed him in this charming anime series. Although the journey is dangerous and they might get killed, the squire Bram and the banished princess Mirana decides to accompany him throughout this journey. However, they will have to fight the demon Terrorblade along their quest, whose goal is to slay all the dragons and remake the cosmos.
I Care A Lot
Rosamund Pike returns for another thriller, while we’re still reeling from her frightening performance in Gone Girl. I Care A Lot is a dark comedy starring Rosamund Pike as a court-appointed guardian who defrauds her elderly clients. When she stumbles across Jennifer Peterson, an apparently harmless middle-aged lady, her cunning plans comes to a halt. From kidnapping to deception, you’ll be cheering for Rosamund the antiheroine on the edge of your seat. It’s also worth noting that she earned her first Golden Globe for her performance in this show as well, so you know it’s bound to be a hit.
