Head on down to 来Lim Bistro for a carnival themed restaurant with many paintings or canvas art depicting the beloved singer many would know and love, Jay Chou. Although the bistro is not owned, associated nor endorsed by the singer, with multiple neon lightings and colourful décor, this eatery is for Jay Chou fans by a Jay Chou fan.
As a Singaporean fan who has been listening to Jay Chou’s songs for a good 21 years and more, the boss wanted to combine his love for the singer with his Singaporean identity. Opening a themed restaurant that pays tribute to his idol in June 2021, the name “LaiLim”, which is Singlish originating from the Hokkien dialect for welcoming friends, family, lovers, colleagues — and in this case all like-minded fans of Jay Chou – to come drink and be merry.
Interior
Decorated along its red and white colored walls, canvas art paintings of the Jay Chou can be found. The series of six canvas artworks were commissioned by the owner of LaiLim for his bistro and was created based on the following principles:
- As artistic tribute to an idol who has inspired the boss to keep working hard
- To fit in with the colourful and cheerful theme of the “Carnival” concept and help create a relaxed, lighthearted, and casual ambience.
- The fulfilment of a dream of the owner’s to combine two things that he loved – his idol and local food
- To give a sense of the idol’s “presence”
来Lim Bistro Signature Cocktails and Mocktails
Priced at $22 each, the bistro boasts 16 signature cocktails that are inspired by Jay Chou’s hits. The signature cocktail menu is a booklet enclosed in a CD case with a matching cover picture which will surely bring you back to the 90s.
红尘客站 “Iron Maiden”, is one of the most popular ordered cocktail which comes in a mini Chinese wine barrel that one would often see in period dramas. Hot favourites such as 采红 “Rainbow Paradise” and 情话词 “Oolong Grapefruit Fizz” are also some of the best sellers that you should try when you visit.
To cater to non-alcohol drinkers and being a kids friendly bistro, Lai Lim also carries a range of Signature mocktails specially made from fresh fruits from $12 each.
For those who prefer to down some shots with your friends, opt for the Rainbow Ferris 12 shots ($98) that comes with a selection of 30ml housepours.
