SodaStream has been around for a while now in fact, they have been around since 1903. Recently we got a chance to visit their headquarters here in Singapore and was given a chance to try out the maker and the extensive range of flavours they had available first-hand.
Flavour Taste Test:
Trust me when I say this, every single favour we tried was insanely good. They have a couple of flavours that is made sugar free with the help of Stevia, and a couple of other that is made with regular sweeteners.
Cola and Diet Cola: Okay we all know what name brand this syrup is trying to compete with and, I can say that it is spot on. A perfect cola taste, I really could not tell the difference from the bottled stuff you can get. The only difference the syrups have when compared to the store-bought brands is that it contains 50% less sugar.
Rating: 5/5
Lemon Lime: This flavour is basically lemonade, really good tasting sparkling lemonade. It has a hint of sourness but is mostly a smooth sweet flavour. I personally don’t like sour foods, but this syrup is enjoyable for me as it does not have enough of a sour kick that would make my face scrunch up from the taste.
Rating: 5/5
Passion Fruit and Mango: This is a very chilled tropical flavour, perfect for Singapore’s sweltering heat. The mango flavour stands out more than the passion fruit, overall, it’s a good combination.
Rating: 4/5
Things start to get interesting from here onwards, the following flavours are from their ZERO range of syrups. They contain no sugar at all and instead is sweetened with Stevia. Surprisingly enough, they also contain a significant amount of vitamin B3, B6, D and E.
Pink Grapefruit (Zero Sugar): This syrup is rather tart but, is sweet at the same time. It is surprisingly sweet considering that it is made with no sugar. It’s not as interesting as the other flavours SodaStream have to offer but taste great all the same.
Rating: 3/5
Pineapple Grapefruit (Zero Sugar): This is the flavour I loved the most out of their syrup collection. The grapefruit flavour is like the pink grapefruit syrup. However, the pineapple magically ties everything together. It is an incredibly unique combination that ‘wow-ed’ me when I took a sip.

Someone is doing their job well at SodaStream, I was trying my best to find a fault with the flavours, but I honestly couldn’t. They have a solid line of syrups for sale, but it can change from time to time depending on a flavour’s availability and demand. Surprisingly, using SodaStream can be healthier than drinking pre-bought carbonated ones from the store. When crafting a SodaStream drink, you get to control how much syrup gets added to your drink. In addition, the syrups are all made with natural flavours and contain no aspartame.
The Line Up
Currently SodaStream has 3 different carbonated drink makers to offer:
- SodaStream Genesis ($149 SGD) (Black in Picture)
The Genesis is the lowest costing out of all the models. It features a sleek design and is cordless. There is a button on top you must press manually in order to fizz up your drink. Some effort is needed as you will have to press it several times according to how fizzy you want your drink.
- SodaStream One Touch ($298 SGD) (White in Picture)
The One Touch is an electric maker that features 3 separate buttons on top instead of 1. The 3 buttons represent the different levels of carbonation that is available so you can choose the preferred level of fizziness. This machine is perfect for lazy pop lovers among us because you only need to press the button once instead of multiple times as compared to other models. The only drawback is that it is not cordless.
- SodaStream Spirit ($179 SGD) (Blue in Picture)
The Spirit is like the One Touch being made visually alike. However, it is a manually operated, cordless maker like the Genesis. Featuring a quick snap lock for easy insertion of the CO2 bottles, the ease of use makes this a top choice for SodaStream lovers who long for the feel of the one touch while keeping it simple like the Genesis.
So, the biggest question now. Is it better than getting a bottle from the store?
Low Cost
If you are anything like me, this should be the first question to appear in your mind. Ultimately, yes, it is cheaper than buying the canned or bottled stuff. We even did the math!
There may be cheaper ones around in Singapore but, the cheapest 24 pack of 320ml soda water I found cost $12.99 SGD. That’s about 0.54 cents per can.
For an unflavoured glass (200ml) of soda water from Soda Stream it will cost you about 0.09633334 cents per glass or 0.48 cents per litre!
That is a steal that we definitely must share if you asked me.
Eco-Friendly
On top of that, since you are using a non-disposable bottle rather than the usual plastic ones it will significantly reduce the strain your household puts on the environment. According to Soda Stream, using one of their bottles is the same as saving a whopping 2000 evil plastic counter parts from appearing in landfills.
