The richness of Indian cuisine extends far beyond the familiar prata yet, many Singaporeans remain unacquainted with the diverse array of Indian dishes available. Let’s embark on a culinary journey to explore the myriad of flavours and aromas that Indian cuisine has to offer. Here are some we recommend you try if you have yet to do so:

  • Gulab Jamun

Gulab Jamun is a delectable dessert crafted from milk solids, deep-fried to golden perfection, and delicately adorned with assorted dried nuts. Its soft texture and sweet taste make it a delightful treat for indulging after a meal.

  • Masala Dosa

Masala Dosa is a beloved South Indian delicacy featuring a crispy, thin pancake filled with a savoury spiced potato mixture. Typically enjoyed for breakfast, it’s often served with flavourful potato curry, chutney and sambar (a lentil-based vegetable stew) for a satisfying and wholesome meal.

  • Dal Makhani

Dal Makhani, resembling a hearty soup or rich sauce, is crafted from black lentils, butter and cream. The inclusion of butter and cream gives this dish a luxuriously rich texture, enhanced by a sophisticated blend of spices and herbs with a subtle hint of smokiness that goes great with naan.

  • Kothu Parotta

  • Thali Meals

The variety and uniqueness of each thali reflects different Indian states. In Singapore, you can find thalis from Gujarat, Kerala or Tamil Nadu each offering a different set of sub-dishes. Typical dishes usually include rice, dal, vegetables, roti, papadam, dahi (yogurt), small amounts of chutney or pickle and a sweet dish to name a few.
