In today’s evolving work landscape, where remote work is increasingly common, it’s crucial to ensure that remote employees feel just as included and engaged as their in-person counterparts. To bridge this gap, organizations can explore several engaging icebreaker activities designed to bring together remote and in-person employees.

  • Two Truths and a Lie

A classic icebreaker, “Two Truths and a Lie,” can work wonders for remote teams and can be easily adapted for in-person gatherings. This activity is simple yet effective in helping team members get to know one another. Here’s how it’s done:

Each participant takes turns sharing two true statements about themselves and one false statement. The rest of the team then tries to guess which statement is the lie.

To include remote employees, simply use a video conferencing platform or collaboration tool. To ensure fairness, appoint a moderator who keeps track of who has shared their statements.

  • Virtual Pictionary

Pictionary is a game that brings out creativity and teamwork. To adapt it for remote team-building, you can utilize online drawing and guessing tools or platforms like Skribbl.io. Participants take turns drawing a word or phrase related to your company or industry, while the rest of the team guesses.

To involve remote employees, create breakout rooms or separate virtual teams and rotate who gets to draw. This approach encourages interaction between in-person and remote team members, fostering a sense of unity and cooperation.

  • “Two Sides of the Coin”

This icebreaker activity is an excellent way to encourage constructive discussion and gain insights into different perspectives. To set it up, create a list of work-related scenarios or dilemmas and ask team members to discuss.

Both the positive and negative aspects or two possible solutions for each scenario can be deliberated on. It prompts participants to share their viewpoints and helps in understanding different perspectives, ultimately enhancing collaboration between remote and in-person employees.

  • “Desert Island” Team Building

“Desert Island” is a thought-provoking icebreaker that provides insights into individual interests and priorities. Participants are asked to imagine they are stranded on a desert island and can only take a limited number of items with them.

As team members take turns sharing their choices, they explain their reasoning. This activity is a fun and engaging way to get to know your colleagues and understand what they value most.

Building connections and promoting inclusivity are essential for a successful and harmonious workplace, so don’t hesitate to implement these engaging icebreakers at your next team-building event.
