Sisters’ Islands Marine Park will open to the public with a new 230m coastal forest trail (even leading to a hilltop view deck!) and lagoon tidal pool in 2024.

The Marine Park now serves as a refuge for the diverse marine life in and around the Southern Islands.

About 250 species of hard corals have been documented in Singapore’s waters out of over 800 species worldwide.

NParks announced that they are partnering with Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Singtel to support advancing works at the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park.

This trail will run through the centre of Big Sister’s Island, where visitors can learn more about the island’s coastal habitats.

In addition, the deck also serves as a birdwatching vantage point. Try to look out for unique birds as you may just be able to spot the spotted wood owl, white-bellied sea eagle and even the critically endangered great-billed heron.

You will also be able to spot critically endangered coastal species, like the Putat Laut and Penaga Laut that are planted along the trail to elevate  the habitat.

A Lagoon at Big Sister’s Island will be developed into a tidal pool to retain seawater during low tides.

Not only that, it will also protect the lagoon beach from wave-induced erosion.

Over time, the Lagoon will turn into a multi habitat ecosystem, supporting a myriad of marine biodiversity, mentioned by NParks.

A S$1 million donation from Singtel is helping to fund the construction of the tidal pool through the Garden City Fund at IPC and the registered charity of NParks.

Additionally, there’ll be a marine classroom created where people can explore and learn more about the biodiversity at the marine park.
