Ever dropped something onto the MRT tracks and didn’t know what to do? Read on to find out more how you can retrieve your items.
It was a breezy Monday morning, the day to resume work at the office. With sleepy eyes and a super slow brain, I left home to the MRT station, embarking on my journey to work – a familiar yet unfamiliar route since who knows when.
What luck, the train open its doors seemingly to welcome me into its embrace as I reached the platform.
Taking out my earpiece and turning on the Bluetooth, “Phew.” Everything turns into slow motion like in the matrix. I saw my earpiece slip through my fingers and into the train track while walking into the train. I turned around, hoping that I was hallucinating and that my earpiece is somewhere on the platform or in the train but to no avail.
At this point being not awake, I just blurted out “I dropped my earpiece,” standing rooted in the train. A kind macik in the SMRT uniform then approached me at the platform to ask if I would still like it back and I nodded avidly. Then she followed up that the staff is unable to retrieve it during the operating hours and I replied that I will be back to get it tonight. With that, the train doors close and I have not even wrapped my head around the situation. I did not manage to thank her, nor have the reflex to exit the train.
Steps To Follow If You Accidentally Drop Something Into The MRT Track
1) Take note of the following information:
- The train station that you are at
- Train direction you were boarding towards (Platform A/B)
- Door number where you dropped the item
2) Inform any staff around or head to the passenger service counter to inform them. Leave your details as follows and they will contact you the next day when they have retrieved the item.
- Item which you dropped
- The details above – where you dropped it
- Name
- Contact Number
3) Return the next day to the passenger service counter to retrieve the item.
Or if it is a train by the SMRT like mine, you can dial their hotline 1800 336 8900 and let them know of your plight. The customer relations will take down the details above as well.
If you are still reading this and wondering if I was able to retrieve my earpiece, it came back to me unharmed. I tested it to check and it was still working well despite losing one of the rubber ear studs.
