7-Eleven is one of the known convenience stores in Singapore, with a selection of microwavable ready-to-eat meals for when you are on the go.
Constantly on the go? Or just looking for convenient meals? There are several convenience stores in Singapore. One of which is 7-Eleven, offering a wide range of ready-to-eat dishes for their customers.
With a selection of microwavable ready-to-eat dishes available, 7-Eleven is located in several heartlands, shopping malls and central-business district areas – emphasising on convenience. Started in the United States, 7-Eleven stores in Singapore are offering items to suit the needs and wants of Singaporeans.
This is reflected in their ready-to-eat meals, offering Asian dishes such as their Butter Chicken Biryani and Japanese Onigiri. They have also recently launched three versions of Hotpot to their 7-Select Menu. However, are these dishes worth the buy?
Breakfast Meals
Let’s look at some of the breakfast items available at 7-Eleven and are they worth the buy?
All Day Chicken and Egg Muffin
Perfectly round fried egg, well-seasoned chicken patty, sandwiched between moist and fluffy English muffins, with melty cheese dripping down the sides – to die for.
It may look like a normal breakfast muffin, almost like the ones sold at McDonald’s. The only difference is a garlic herb spread is added to enhance the overall flavour of the food. Sold at only $3.30, this is definitely a value for money dish, taking into account the flavour as well as the price.
Chunky Egg and Chicken Ham Wrap
Another breakfast item on the menu is the Chunky Egg and Chicken Ham Wrap. As its name suggest, this item is a tortilla wrap filled with scrambled eggs, chicken ham and cheese. It is pretty decent for a breakfast wrap – though I thought adding a little more seasoning and some spinach would make it better.
For those who are constantly on the go and need a light breakfast, this could be a decent option. However, a touch of special seasoning or a type of vegetable would complete it. Priced at $3, this dish might be slightly underwhelming but it is still worth the try.
Lunch/Dinner Meals
Let’s move on to the lunch and dinner food items sold at this convenience store.
Butter Chicken Biryani
Craving for a spice-packed serving of Indian butter chicken and fragrant biryani rice? 7-Eleven got you covered. Indulge in one of the 7-Select classics, the Butter Chicken Biryani. What is Indian food without spice?
You can never go wrong with this one. Its tender chicken chunks drenched in a thick and flavourful gravy, paired with fragrant and perfectly coloured biryani rice – this is my favourite. Priced at $3.90, this dish is definitely worth the money and it is absolutely delicious.
Chicken Gyoza
Apart from the biryani, 7-Eleven also offers finger food such as their Chicken Gyoza with a provided packet of vinegar. The packaging is so well-thought with a small area in built for the vinegar to be poured out.
The aroma of the gyoza was pleasing. In terms of its appearance, the gyoza was half golden-brown, half almost like its boiled instead of fried. What’s more, it tastes almost like Hainanese Chicken Rice. Pretty good flavour in my opinion, well-seasoned and such a good pairing with the vinegar.
Priced at $3.20, it would be better if it were crispy instead, but this is a decent dish, and it is worth the try.
Indonesia Style Noodles with Fried Chicken
Imagine IndoMie with added spiced fried chicken and mixed vegetables. This dish included a packet of sweet sauce to be mixed with the noodles.
I have to say, this was underwhelming. The noodles would be better if they are al-dente. Apart from that, the sweet sauce overpowers the actual flavour of the noodles. The chicken is pretty decent, though it could have been better if it was slightly more spicy – the kind of spice that tickles the tastebuds.
Priced at $3.20, it is pretty convenient, however, it could have been better in terms of its taste and the texture of the noodles.
Mala Chicken Hot Pot and Almond Milk
The Mala craze was almost everywhere, schools, restaurants, you name it. Were you caught up in it as well? 7-Eleven recently launched three versions of their Hot Pot (Mala Chicken, Tomato Seafood and Herbal Chicken) The Mala Chicken Hot Pot which we got is packed with Sichuan peppers, chilli padi and ingredients such as lotus, chicken luncheon meat and vermicelli noodles.
When taken out from the microwave, the aroma was wafting through the air – pretty mouth-watering. Apart from that, it was pretty spicy as well. Luckily, the almond milk helped to reduce the heat.
Priced at $3.90, the Mala Hot Pot is definitely worth the try. However, don’t forget to also purchase the almond milk priced at $1.90 to help get rid of the fire in your mouth!
Time for Desserts
It’s dessert time! Apart from all the savoury dishes, 7-Eleven also offers several desserts such as their Chocolate Lava Cake and Goomedo Strawberry Panna Cotta.
Chocolate Lava Cake
Indulge in the decadent Chocolate Lava Cake available at 7-Eleven. The moist cake, with the molten chocolate centre, what a perfect end to a long working day.
The rich chocolate flavour is not overly sweet with slight bitter notes at the end. This is indulgence at its finest. Priced at $3.00, this is definitely worth the try and a perfect way to sweeten up your day.
Goomedo Strawberry Panna Cotta
Packaged like a sandwich, this dessert is panna cotta layered between strawberry flavoured cake. The flavour was impressive as well. It was not overly sweet, and it was very refreshing. The strawberry flavour is also pretty delicious. I know I will get another one.
Here is a hack. Eat this with the Chocolate Lava Cake and you will be amazed. Imagine chocolate covered strawberries, in cake form. This is it.
Priced at $3.00, this dessert is another perfect option to end a long and tiring day.
Head down to your nearest 7-Eleven and try out some of these dishes. Don’t forget to share them with your friends and family too!
