We Reviewed The Zip Slicer Kitchen Gadget Tool | Does It Work?

Annoyingly round tiny fruits and vegetable like grapes and cherry tomatoes might be a hassle to chop up. Due to the round shape of these produce, we are often in a constant battle when we prepare them, like having to catch them before they roll of the counter.

Even if you magically blessed with the ability to slice up cherry tomatoes without them rolling around, it would still take a while to chop them all up as we have to do it one at a time.

According to the popular social media application, Tiktok, the Zip slicer is supposed to simplify this very process while minimizing mess.  We found this rather interesting and gave it a try.

First Impressions

It has a full plastic build with rubberised grips and metal blade. It has a tube as well as a sliding grip which houses the blade. It feels rather well built but there is no way to sharpen the blade since the grip house it in such a small space.

Putting It To The Test

We tested the slicer with both grapes and cherry tomatoes and ran the sliding blade down the tube. Truly little effort was needed when using the Zip Slicer. However, I found that the cuts made were uneven and some fruits o vegetables that were tiny did not get sliced at all.

Also, cleaning the Zip Slicer was a great chore. Like I mentioned earlier, the blade was tucked in a hard-to-reach spot, which made gunk that was stuck difficult to reach with a conventional rectangle sponge. We faced the same problem with the main tube as well, which makes the item not as friendly for maintenance and cleaning.

Verdict

Recommended only for people who make salads all the time. Yes, the Zip slicer is indeed more efficient than a knife in terms of speed. Nevertheless, I ironically found less trouble in using a knife to chop the products one by one. It was easier to clean, and you can slice odd, shaped produce albeit taking a bit more time.  I often find that these single use gadgets made for a singular purpose usually over complicate things with difficult cleaning and storage. Well, if you are a ‘salad lover’ who is in awe of this item, I would advice you to get a milk bottle scrubber along with it to make cleaning easier.
