Waffletown will be permanently shutting down on 18 May 2021. I’m sure this may come as a shock to most of y’all. According to an article published by this website, the closure is a result of “rental problems” and the current premises is rumoured to be taken over by a supermarket chain.
For Those Who Don’t Know
Image Credit: LadyironchefWaffletown is a near 40-year-old family ran fast food establishment opened by Patrick Soh here in Singapore, serving up affordable and yet delicious comfort food. Their menu compromises of burgers, waffles and fried chicken. Here, their most famous fried chicken and Belgian waffles combo would cost you $6.50SGD. Marinated, battered, and perfectly fried chicken with their soft waffle might look humble at first glance but, a bite is sure to sway your heart. On top of the savoury waffles they offer dessert waffles as well, if you are adventurous enough they would even top it with fried chicken.

In the area there aren’t any other establishment that would offer cheap food and an airconditioned environment to finish up assignments at.
On top of all the good food they serve up, Waffletown also has uniquely old interior. Having old interior design is not necessarily bad, bringing about a nostalgic feel to the restaurant with its glorious swivel chairs and tiled floors.
Outlets In North Korea?
Yes, you read that right, Patrick Soh was the man who introduced the burger to North Korea.
Waffle town is originally an American brand from Virginia Beach that Patrick Soh owns the Asian Franchising rights. Normally people would think of every single other country, but Patrick chose to open an outlet in North Korea with the help of his partners.
He opened a store in Pyongyang in 2009, with much perseverance, he became even more successful there with over 30 outlets opened in North Korea.
Waffletown might be closing down on the 18th of May but I’m sure it will be always close to the hearts of Singaporeans who were lucky enough to experience its flavours. If I were you, I would be heading down there as soon as possible if not the next time you crave their succulent fried chicken and waffle combo, you just might have to sneak your way into North Korea.
