Once in a while, we all want to escape away from the stress of our hectic life. So here are some unique cafes, from those with interesting backstories to those with novel food creations, for a moment of pleasure and respite.
1) Wildseed Café – The Summerhouse
Enjoy an out-of-the-country feel at Wildseed Café – The Summerhouse. This place reminded me of some of Bangkok’s trendy cafes with lots of green potted plants, natural light and concrete flooring. There is also a florist on the side (Poppy Flora) which added to the natural smells of nature with their fresh flowers and more!
The café sells a variety of items on their menu but some of the ones I would recommend to get are the Kelong Prawn & Scallop Pizza ($25) and the Bagel Eggs Benny ($16) for something more special from the norm. For desserts, opt for their Biscoff Waffle ($16) which comes with Biscoff biscuits, crumble and spread served with strawberry and a side of vanilla or chocolate ice cream.

2) Cafe Monochrome
See life in black and white as you walk into Cafe Monochrome and be surrounded by a cool optical illusion that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a comic book universe. The food menu however, is as colourful as it can be and you should definitely try their Softshell Crab Pasta ($22) or their Lobster Burger ($25) when you visit.
Café Monochrome is the first of its kind in Singapore and is sure to draw in a slew of Instagrammers looking to freshen up their feed so this is a new hotspot that you should check out.

3) The Glasshouse
The emphasis at the Glasshouse is high-quality ingredients on artisanal sourdough breads, which are then served with their speciality coffee. One thing to keep in mind is that The Glasshouse rotates its roasters. As a result, you’ll get to sample something new each month.
The interior is Scandinavian in style, with plenty of elegant wooden furniture and lush green plants. See their menu here and try their Bo Ssam Pulled Pork Burger ($16) or their Banana Pecan Miso Butter Toast ($14) that I absolutely loved.

4) Old School Delights
Every aspect of the restaurant has been meticulously considered, from the classroom-style decor to the authentic home-cooked dishes. What is the result? Blast to the past and take a trip down memory lane, all the way back to the 1980s.
Started in 2010, Old School Delights is a result of passion for real, home-cooked food made in the traditional manner. Food to reminisce on their menu include Laksa D’Lite ($8.90) and Tuckshop Wings ($4.90). Each dish is created with a great deal of thought, effort, and love that is wonderful and comforting.

These cafés do really stand out from the rest and does an amazing job of staying true to the theme they started with. Check them out and visit one of these cafes for some quality good time with great food to boot.
