Apart from Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, many people got themselves hooked onto TikTok, a social media platform released in 2016. Since then, many people have been using platform to share their story, food recipes and innovative beauty trends.
Today’s TikTok has over 689 million monthly active users worldwide, with over 2 billion downloads on both the App Store and Google Play. TikTok has now made its mark in 155 countries. Between January and July of 2020, there was an estimated number of 1.04 million downloads in Singapore.
It is filled with different type of content, from humourous videos, to dance tutorials and challenges. Not only that, it has also become a platform for content creators to share their favourite TikTok trends.

Content creators on TikTok are getting really creative with their flavours. Let us take a look at some of them.
Nature’s Cereal
This simple mixture of fruits, berries and coconut water was first introduced by Sherwayne Mears (@natures_food) on TikTok. He describes this as “what breakfast looks like” for him. This recipe calls for blueberries, blackberries, pomegranate seeds, topped with cooling coconut water.
Sherwayne explains that is good for digestion. Not long after he posted the video, many other content creators hopped on. American singer, Lizzo also went on board and made her own version of this breakfast ‘cereal’. Her version incorporates the sweet flavours of fresh strawberries, blueberries, pomegranate seeds and coconut water. She also added several ice cubes.
Since then, this recipe started appearing across Facebook and TikTok. Furthermore, other celebrities have tried this recipe such as singer-songwriter, Jason Derulo and Internet star, Trisha Paytas.
Baked Feta Pasta – #uunifetapasta
No one will skip their carbs after this. Originally introduced by Jenni Hayrinen (@liemessa), this simple pasta recipe is seen several time on TikTok. Made with very few ingredients such as cherry tomatoes, a block of feta cheese, olive oil and the pasta of choice, it became viral in Finnland.
It has resulted in the increase sales of feta sales and is now recognised as the ‘new TikTok pasta’ due to its third viral wave after TikTok creators @grilledcheesesocial and @feelgoodfoodie shared it.
YouTubers have also featured this recipe. The Hunger Diaries TV on YouTube made her own rendition of this pasta dish by adding in sweet strawberries into the recipe. Mukbangers such as SAS-ASMR and ASMR Phan have also featured this viral dish on their YouTube channel.
Gigi Hadid’s Pasta alla Vodka
Many may recognise Gigi Hadid due to her career as a fashion model. Apart from her remarkable contribution to the fashion industry, she is also a great cook. This stunning 25-year-old model won the 2016’s Celebrity Masterchef.
Her recipe for Pasta alla Vodka was first shared while she was pregnant with her first born, Khai. Made with tomato paste, heavy cream, red pepper flakes and butter, this recipe has then gone viral on TikTok.
Since then, it has been recreated by many other TikTokers. Some added protein such as chicken breast, others made a version without the alcohol. Creator of More Salt Please on Youtube, Nicole Rizza, made a vegan version of this spicy and hearty dish.

This 80’s make-up look is making its way into 2021. Blush is placed right below the cheekbone and at the tip of the nose to give one an e-girl look.
This beauty hack was introduced by Alena Giuliana (@alenaavictoriaa) on TikTok. She applied blush on different areas of her face to make it look leaner and make her cheekbones appear higher.
This hack was then used by many other TikTokers such as Elena Menshik (@elena_menshik) and professional hairstylist, Olivia (@themaneliv).
