Boredom is a common experience that many people face from time to time. While some people may turn to exciting activities or hobbies to cure their boredom, others may resort to more mundane or un-stimulating activities while hoping to find a thrill in it. Watching paint dry is often used as a metaphor for boredom, but some people may actually find it to be a soothing or meditative activity. However, for most people, watching paint dry is one of the most boring activities imaginable. Nothing changes even if you stare at it real hard and the slow pace and lack of stimulation makes it a poor choice for curing boredom. But if you are interested why not give it a go? Who knows, you may just enjoy the process of it.
Sorting socks may be a necessary task, but it is hardly an exciting one. The repetitive nature of the task is mundane and sometimes the sock may just be oddly shaped after it comes out from the washing machine. Having to pair purely black socks with its other half may just be the most difficult thing you have to do but we all probably just gave up and wore a mismatched pair after awhile. While some people may find satisfaction in organizing their sock drawer, it is unlikely to provide a sense of excitement or engagement.
Counting ceiling tiles is another activity that you can do if you have nothing better to do. Be it in the office or at home, there are plenty of repetitive floor or ceiling works that will keep you “entertained” if you just want to pass the time away. The monotony of the task may be satisfying for some in terms of counting and organizing, but hey, if someone ever asks how many tiles are needed to retile your entire home or office, you would have the exact numbers and the general knowledge to wow your family and co-workers.
With technology keeping most of use glued to our phones or computer screens, telling our parents that we are heading out to the park or nearby community garden may just gain a nod of approval. Until you tell them you are going there to watch the grass grow that is. Being one with nature may be a thing but next time why not bring a ruler with you to measure the height of the grass while you are at it? It may not be exciting or engaging but sometimes just watching a patch of greenery is a much needed relax and relaxation for our strained eyes.
