The Boba Guide | OG Bubble Tea For The Sweetest Moments

It is an understatement to say that there are plenty of bubble tea shops in Singapore. Bubble tea has always been popular in Singapore. As such, there are many emerging brands from all over the world that have opened their shop here. Most people would have definitely lost track of the amount of bubble tea stores that exist right now.

If you have the intention to conquer all existing bubble tea stores, I guess this list will help you as a starting point. In this list, you will be able to find some of the ‘OG’ bubble tea stalls. (My knowledge of bubble tea is quite limited. Hence, if I do not include your favourite brand bubble tea, I’m really sorry about it 🙂 )

The Alley

鹿角巷 or also known as The Alley is a bubble milk tea chain is established in 2013. The brand has expanded rapidly from Taiwan to branches in Japan, Korea, Paris, Australia, USA and many more. In Singapore itself, there are a total of 8 outlets.

Tiger Sugar

Known for its brown sugar boba, it started in Taichun, Taiwan in 2017. It is made with brown sugar syrup, organic milk from Straus Family Creamery and tapioca. When it is mixed together, it has a resemblance of tiger stripes hence the name. Currently, Tiger Sugar has 10 outlets islandwide.

The Whale Tea

This shop offers a unique drink combination of a cheese milk cap and torched caramelised brown sugar. It also has brown sugar boba pearls to add that chewiness. They have a total of 6 outlets in Singapore.

Artea

A delicious cocktail of freshly brewed tea, artisanal flavours, Swiss milk and tasty topping is what Artea has to offer their customers. All their toppings and teas are freshly made and conceived in their cosy shop in the centre of Lausanne. There are only 4 outlets in Singapore.

LiHO

Ever since LiHO TEA’s establishment in 2017 by Royal T Group, LiHO TEA has signified a proud Singapore tea beverage brand that every Singaporean can relate to. LiHO 里喝 means “How are you?” in dialect and so far, LiHo has an impressive 95 outlets in Singapore.

KOI

All the way from Taiwan, it has achieved a reputation as the go-to place for a cup of classic bubble milk tea. KOI also boasts a high pearl to drink ratio which of course attracts customers. Since the opening of the first outlet in 2007, it has grown to 61 outlets islandwide.

Chi Cha San Chen

A Taiwan bubble tea chain from Taichung City, Taiwan, they have rapidly expanded in Singapore and is also known for their award winning Ding Ding Oolong Tea. Currently, it has about 25 outlets in Singapore.

Xing Fu Tang

Xin Fu Tang uses 100% natural brown sugar to create their well-known brown sugar pearls without any additives, essences, or preservatives. Directly importing their brown sugar from Taiwan, everything is hand-made which is definitely a plus point. Currently, they have about 10 outlets in Singapore.

The number of outlets is just an estimate at the time of writing and there might be an increase in the number of outlets due to its popularity among Singaporeans. I might have missed some outlets that is considered part of the OG gang apart from your neighbourhood bubble tea joints (so don’t kill me if it isn’t here).
