Display Highlights
As visitors enter the conservatory, they are given the chance to observe the display of these beautiful flowers and symbols used in the Japanese culture.
Cherry Blossoms – Sakura
These beautiful flowers symbolise a time of renewal, bringing hope and new dreams at the start of the Japanese calendar. Usually blooming in Spring, these flowers can only last for about a week or two. The time of flowering and length of blooming can be affected by the change in weather.
Peach Blossoms – Momo
Peach blossoms, also known as Momo, grows on the peach tree. These flowers are fragrant and only will bloom in early to mid-Spring. Similar to the Sakura, these flowers can last for a week or two.
Apart from that, these flowers symbolise purity and womanhood. Many young women would display these flowers in their homes for good luck and joy when they get engaged.
Furthermore, in Japan, these pretty pink flowers represent marriage and a sign of loyalty.
Japanese Gate – Torii
The Torii is a traditional Japanese gate, that is commonly located at the entrance of Shinto shrines. The gate marks the transition from the profane to the sacred. It is simply used to mark a place with deep religious meanings.
Apart from that, it also marks the entrance to a sacred place. Thus, it is customary for visitors to bow their heads before passing under it.
