Want a break from the hustle and bustle of the city? Jio your friends to see wildlife in action. The reserve’s various natural habitats like mangroves, mudflats, forests, and ponds play host to a large variety of flora and fauna.
Not only that, but Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve has also been recognised by Wetlands International as a site of international importance for migratory birds. This means that Sungei Buloh joins the ranks of Australia’s Kakau National Park and Japan’s Yastu Tidal Flats, and since then, it also became Singapore’s first ASEAN Heritage Park.
Here are some of the amazing things you can do and see when you visit the reserve.
TRAILS
There are 4 main trails in Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.
- Coastal Trail – 1.3km
- Forest Trail – 0.3km
- Mid-canopy Trail – 0.15km
- Migratory Bird Trail – 1.95km
Each of the trails provide different views and angles of the reserve and you will spot different flora and fauna along the way. Of course, if you are adventurous, you can try all 4 trails to experience everything that the reserve has to offer.
Pods and Boardwalks
Sprinkled across the reserve are boardwalks that provide passage over the mangroves where visitors can get up-close and personal with the flora and sometimes birds that come to the wetlands during migration season.
There are 3 main pods in the reserve, and they are aptly named Kingfisher Pod, Mudskipper Pod and the Dragonfly Pod. These pods have a unique design that allows for amazing contrasts between nature and man-made structure.
One of the most well-known board walks is the Eagle Point Boardwalk. This boardwalk is situated along the Coastal Trail and it is the nearest to the Straits of Johor. Visit this boardwalk for a chance to see amazing animals along the Straits like the White-bellied Sea Eagles.
Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve Visitor Centre
The visitor centre is located at the main entrance of the reserves and it offers and air-conditioned venue where visitor can get to know more about the history of the reserve at the gallery while enjoying some air-condition before bracing the heat.
So take a hike (literally) and explore one of the treasured heritage parks of Singapore. Who knows, you may encounter a feathered friend along the way!
