From romance to self-love, poetry helps convey the words we do not have the courage to. I love how poetry is written. There is always so much emotions put into the piece and it get so to me sometimes. I have to admit, I cry sometimes when I read poetry books.

Sometimes, there are pieces that resonates with me. Be it romance, or just about life generally. It is just wonderful how a few lines could touch my heart and make me tear up. Here are my picks for the top 4 poetry books you should get your hands on.

Milk and Honey

Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur was one of the first poetry books that purchased. My friends were telling me about how good it was so I could not help it but got one for myself. The book is divided into four chapters, each consisting of poetry relating to different types of pain.

It was actually self-published in November of 2014. It was then picked up and republished by Andrews McMeel Publishing in October 2014. First look, I fell in love with the exterior of the book and as I kept reading it, the book is just more than just its simplistic exterior.

I Wrote This For You

Sometimes there are words that are meant for us. Each of us have gone through so much in life and sometimes we need someone to understand what is going on. There are some words that we wish e could hear to make things a little better.

I Wrote This For You was Written by Iain S. Thomas. This book feels like someone is writing it personally for you. It is truly amazing, being able to resonate so well with it. I love this book so much and I believe that there is something in there for everyone.

The Sun and Her Flowers

Another publication by Rupi Kaur is The Sun and Her Flowers. This book celebrates love. It is pretty different from Milk and Honey. The title of the book is a play on the word ‘sunflowers.’ This is also an inspiration to the poems in the book.

Poems in the book tells includes pieces relating to nature, love and universal energy. Similar to Milk and Honey, the book includes illustrations that complements the poem on the page. There are 5 different chapters in the book (wilting, falling, rooting, rising, blooming) – almost like reflecting the growth of a sunflower.

Pillow Thoughts

Written by Courtney Peppernell, Pillow Thoughts is the best-selling collection of poetry. It dives into feelings such as heartbreaks, love and raw emotions. Divided into different sections, you can always flip though the book and look for something that you could relate to.

Pillow Thoughts is a series and has a total of four books currently. Pillow Thoughts II is all about healing. Sure, everyone feels heartbreak at some point in their life but the healing process is what makes one who they are today. The third edition to the series speaks about mending the heart. It dives into our feelings and what we are thinking about. Similar for Pillow Thought IV, it serves as a way for us to heal completely.

These are some of my favourite poetry books. I believe that my feelings are valid and that sometimes it is okay to not be okay. All I need is just some time to process my thoughts and calm down. These books have definitely helped me become a better person, knowing that it is totally alright to feel whatever I am feeling.

Share this with your friends and family. Get your hands on these poetry books and allow yourself to feel as you sink into these heartfelt poems.
