For ages, the glittering lights of the night sky have compelled mankind to keep staring up. However, in Singapore this can be a little hard as our city is too densely populated with urban lighting and tall buildings, but there are still places where you can get a good look at the stars here. Observatories
Woodlands Galaxy Community Club (Andromeda Observatory)
This facility in the North, appropriately called Woodlands Galaxy Community Club isn’t your usual neighbourhood centre. Aside from the conventional amenities such as badminton courts, event rooms, and a gym, it also has an observatory! The Andromeda Observatory houses a 30cm telescope that provides astrophiles with the greatest view into space. Clear skies allow you to get a close look at the moon, as well as a glimpse of stars and, if you’re lucky, other planets.

The Science Centre Observatory
The Science Centre Observatory is the place to go for all things astronomical, and it’s also the greatest spot to go to if you long to find Orion’s belt. With its 40cm mega-telescope (Singapore’s largest publicly available telescope), you can look past the city’s streetlights and to stars light years away (we exaggerate but you get our point), in addition to attending their many seminars and workshops.
This might be very well the only good thing about being located along the equator. Due to this location, this is one of few observatories on the planet that is so close to the equator, it provides views of both the northern and southern hemispheres for stargazers.

Non – Observatory Viewing Areas
Although going to an observatory is ideal when wanting to go stargazing, we understand that most of the time you would like to be alone during the activity. Below we also have included some places you can turn to for an undisturbed stargazing evening.
P.S It usually takes your eyes around 30 minutes to adapt to seeing the night sky. Use a red flashlight to see your stars as white light can cause your pupils to dilate. When your eyes constrict, it makes it more difficult to see in the dark, thus a red flashlight will help you maintain your vision to see better at night.
West Coast Park
West Coast Park is the go-to destination for families residing in Singapore’s southwest, with amenities such as outdoor adventure playgrounds, barbeque pits, and camping sites. Take a stroll out to the Grand Lawn for a clean, unobstructed view of the night sky. A McDonalds is also close if you want to get some light refreshments for a picnic under the stars as well.

Labrador Nature Reserve
The Park, which is part of the Southern Ridges, features Singapore’s only rocky sea cliff and provides a panoramic view of the sea and cliffside flora. It’s also nestled away from the city’s hustle and bustle, providing the heavenly, sweet serenity you’ll need to accompany your space gaze. Don’t be concerned if you hear the Oriental Magpie-robin and Black-Naped Oriole singing in the Labrador Nature Reserve; as these birds are common in the area.

East Coast Park
East Coast Park extends from Changi Airport, through the East Coast Seafood Centre’s various eateries, to Fort Road on Singapore’s east coast which makes it a strategic location to spot planes and stars as well.
If you need to kill time while waiting for the night sky to fill up with magnificent stars or, if you’re lucky, a meteor shower, there are dedicated cycling and walking trails as well as bicycle and rollerblade rental booths to pass the time. If aren’t exactly the active type, you can set up a barbeque dinner at one of the nearby pits as well.
