For many, eating alone is appealing as it allows you to fulfil your desires without looking weird in front of someone. You can also avoid awkward mealtime talks, and not to mention, get to eat at your own pace.  So, for those days when you just want to be alone and eat out, here’s a useful list of restaurants and cafés we recommend you to visit.

Grain Traders

The advantage of dining in the Central Business District is that the lunch traffic is predictable, allowing you to schedule your meal accordingly. After 1.30 pm, when most people would have returned to work, stop by for a nutritious grain bowl packed with tasty vegetables and quality meats. Create your own bowl (from $16) with ingredients ranging from salad greens to bulgur wheat, as well as freshly cooked toppings. We are sure it will provide you with the energy you require without the food coma that usually follows.

Location: 138 Market St, 01 CapitaGreen, 048946

Opening Hours: 8.00am-4.00pm (Mon – Fri) | Delivery

Park Bench Deli

Park Bench Deli isn’t just a small sandwich store. What was once a little takeaway eatery has evolved into a modern all-day diner with all the necessary amenities for a relaxing sit-down dinner or work session. Sit on the high stools facing the open kitchen and order their signature, hearty sandwiches like the porchetta ($18), which features hearty slices of pork and crackling stuffed between ciabatta or the spicy-smoky Italian Hero ($18), which features smoked duck ham, mortadella, pepperoni, and fennel. You’ll definitely be well fed here if you ever decide to come here alone.

Location: 179 Telok Ayer St, Singapore 068627

Opening Hours: 9.00am-3.30pm, 5.00pm-10.00pm (Tues – Sat) | 9.00am-4.30pm (Sun)

Niku King

Most ramen restaurants are made to accommodate lone diners, and Niku King is no exception. Those dining alone are usually seated at the bar counter, where they can watch the kitchen staff pour out ladles of thick broth, yum! Choose from the traditional Keisuke Ramen fare or the meat-heavy Niku King bowls ($11.90-$13.90), which includes boiling the fattier Tontoro meat for hours to produce a creamier, more umami flavoured soup base.

Location: 60 Paya Lebar Road #01-02/03/04 Paya Lebar Square, 409051

Opening Hours: 11.30am-10.30pm (Mon – Sat) | 11.30pm-10.00pm (Sun) | Delivery

Sushiro

Singapore is now home to Japan’s highest-earning conveyor belt restaurant, Sushiro. Here you can look forward to devouring plenty of Sushi like Tuna ($2.20), yellowtail ($3.20), and the unique roasted pork with green onion ($2.20). If you didn’t drool upon hearing those dishes, they are only 3 among the more than 200 kinds of sushi and side dishes available. When it comes to ordering, you won’t even have to deal with the waitstaff. Grab something from the belt or place an order on the iPad and have it brought to your table through the same conveyor belt.

Locations: Tiong Bahru Plaza | Isetan Scotts | Causeway Point | Bedok Mall | Waterway Point |  Suntec City  |  Lot One | Parkway Parade | Great World

Opening Hours: 11.00am-10.00pm (Mon – Sun) depending on outlet | Takeaway

Yakiniku-GO

At Yakiniku-GO, you can pretend to be a cook while eating a smoke-free barbeque dinner. An electric grill is used to prepare cuts of meat and vegetables at this modest diner, to ensure you remain smelling fresh after the meal. Don’t worry about awkwardness here as you will have your own personal size barbecue grill. The majority of the meat combos here are around $20 and includes rice, soup, and a salad or kimchi of your choosing. Or, sample a variety of reasonably priced sets, such as the Yakiniku-GO set ($15.80), which includes beef short plate, ribeye steak, and even beef tongue pieces, which is sure to keep you hunger pangs at bay.

Locations: Jurong Point | Seletar Mall

Opening Hours: 11.00am-10.00pm (Mon – Sat) | Delivery

We understand that sometimes people just want to have time to themselves, while stuffing their face with food. With this list we hope that we have given you enough options to visit whenever you are feeling this way.
