Commonly known as Sheng Jian Bao 生煎包 or Shui Jian Bao 水煎包 in China, nosignboard Sheng Jian at Northpoint City has a new dining concept to introduce the iconic Shanghainese pan-fried pork buns to Singaporeans. Filled with steaming hot soup and juicy pork filling (think Xiao Long Baos or soup dumplings but bigger), add a crispy pan-fried bottom to elevate it for more texture and crunch.

Aptly termed “Juicy Little Supreme Buns”, these pan-fried savoury buns star four savoury fillings for a start: the Signature “Popping Juices” ($5.50/3pcs) pork filling, piquant Chili Crab and Pork ($6.30/3pcs), Spicy Dried Shrimp ($5.80/3pcs) that imparts a unique oceanic flavour, and even a meat-free alternative made with a filling of preserved mustard greens; Vegan Sheng Jian Bao ($5.30/3pcs).

If you are unsure of what to try, go for the Tricolor Sheng Jian Bao ($10.80/3 types x 2pcs) that comes with an assortment of their Signature “Popping Juices”, Chili Crab and Pork as well as the Vegan Sheng Jian Bao. If you dine in from 15 to 28 October 2021, enjoy $1+ (U.P.$5.80+) Spicy Dried Shrimp “Guo Tie” Dumpling (3pcs) with every main dish ordered so don’t miss this great deal and try all the different fillings today!

Tricolor Sheng Jian Bao

To create these delicious soup buns, the chefs at nosignboard Sheng Jian will first pan fry them with water on a cast iron griddle before pan frying it with oil over an open flame to ensure extra crispiness. With delicately pleated tops, a tender and juicy filling with piping hot soup along with a crispy bottom, this is definitely a dish anyone can enjoy.

Apart from the signature Sheng Jian Baos, fill your stomachs with authentic Shanghainese food. From appetizers to mains as well as rice or noodles dishes, you can expect a large variety of offerings from their menu here.

From left to right: Chilled Spicy Chicken in ‘Sichuan’ Style; Deep-fried Radish Pastry; Famous Wu Xi Braised Pork Cube

To start things off, get the Chilled Spicy Chicken in ‘Sichuan’ Style ($7.80) that comes with tender slices of chicken marinated in a mala spicy sauce that is rich, spicy, numbing and savoury. The blend of Sichuan peppercorns, spices and chilies has a little heat to it but will excite your tastebuds for the next dish.

If you cant take the heat, go for the Deep-fried Radish Pastry ($5.80/3pcs) that comes with a flaky and buttery exterior filled with savoury white radish or the Famous Wu Xi Braised Pork Cube ($14.80) that has pork belly cubes that have been braised till tender in a thick red sauce with sweet vinegar.

From left to right: Dried Noodles with Scallion & Dried Shrimps; Crispy Rice with Chili Crab Meat Sauce

For a classic main dish, get the Dried Noodles with Scallion & Dried Shrimps ($6.80) that is a simple and comforting bowl of noodles tossed in scallion oil and dried shrimps for both fragrance and flavour. For those who prefer to have a little more fun with their food, nosignboard Sheng Jian has taken Guo Ba 锅巴 or crusted rice you usually find stuck to the bottom of the pots when you have claypot rice to the next level. Serving it up as a substitute to the usual mantous and chili crab sauce, the Crispy Rice with Chili Crab Meat Sauce ($14.80) will be a crispy and savoury delight.

From top to bottom: Chilled Coconut Papaya Pudding; Crispy Purple Sweet Potato Balls

To end of a heavy and potentially oily meal, the Chilled Coconut Papaya Pudding ($4.80/3pcs) will soothe your throats as a refreshing and healthy dessert or get some Crispy Purple Sweet Potato Balls ($4.80/3pcs) to end off on a sweet high with a soft custard filling and warm crispy skin.

Every country has its own local favourite food and snacks and Singapore being known as a foodie heaven is always full of exciting new ventures with food from all over the world. Visit nosignboard Sheng Jian today or follow them on Facebook or Instagram for the latest updates.
