I am a sucker for romance movies – even if they make me cry so hard. However, there is just something about Hindi movies that just keeps me watching them. My family loves watching them too – because of the songs actually. I was then influenced into watching them since I was a little girl.
My family and I would sing to the songs and enjoy some snacks watching Hindi movies. I grew up with these movies and I think I know most of the songs by heart. No matter how many times I watch them, I will never get tired of it.
These are some of my personal favourites in terms of their storyline and songs!
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
This was one of the very first Hindi movies I watched when I was younger. The movie depicts a love triangle between Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan), Tina (Rani Mukherji) and Anjali (Kajol). Rahul was a school playboy who would constantly go around giving girls ‘friendship bands’. However, Anjali always knew that he was lying to these girls.
Until the day he met Tina – it was love at first sight. The three quickly became close friends but little did he know, Anjali always had feelings for him, but it was too late. He marries Tina and Anjali left and returned to visit her family. Rahul and Tina had a daughter, also named Anjali. Unfortunately, Tina passed on, but left a letter for her daughter, asking her if she could reunite the best of friends.
By the end of the movie, the two reunited and got married. The story is pretty long – a full-length Hindi movie usually last about two to three hours. There is so much going on in this movie, but the storyline is pretty easy to understand.
I honestly think I have watched this movie more than 10 times and I would cry every single time I watch it. I have to say that I remember the lyrics to the songs in the movie. This is definitely a must-watch, especially for those who are fans of romance movies!

Kal Ho Naa Ho
This movie made me cry so much, I got puffy eyes afterwards. It tells the story of three friends. Aman, played by Shah Rukh Khan falls in love with his neighbour, Naina (Preity Zinta). However, Naina’s classmate, Rohit (Saif Ali Khan) was falling for her too.
Aman never confessed his feelings. Soon, Naina started falling for Aman but before she could confess, Aman lied and told her that he was married. This was not the case as he was suffering from an illness and had limited time life. Thus, Aman gave Rohit advice on how to win Naina’s heart. The two got engaged.
As they were shopping for items for their wedding, they came across Aman’s ‘wife’, Priya (who was actually his doctor). Naina soon realised that Aman had sacrificed his love for her. The ending of the movie was too much for my heart to handle. This is definitely my all-time favourite.

Sanam Teri Kasam
My friend recommended me this movie and I bawled my eyes out halfway through the movie. Played by Harshvadhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, the movie dives into the life of a librarian (Saru). She was later disowned by her own father who had misunderstood the situation that she and Inder, an ex-convict living in the same building (Harshvadha Rane), was in.
Saru later falls for Abhimanyu (Anurag Sinha) and the two got engaged. At that point in time, Inder has already fallen for her. On the day of their wedding, Ambhimanyu did not turn up and told Saru that his parents did not approve of the wedding.
His parents did not want him to get married to a girl who was disowned by her father. Heartbroken, Saru went to their booked honeymoon hotel room and spend the night with Inder. Later in the movie, Saru fell ill and was admitted to the hospital.
However, she did not want to miss her sister’s wedding ceremony. Inder made arrangements for this to happen without having her to visit them physically. He later proposed to her, and they got married. Unfortunately, Saru’s life ended as she lay in Inder’s arms.
This is one of the most heart-wrenching movies I have ever watched. I couldn’t stop crying during the film. It is both beautiful and sad and worth the watch.
