Mouth-Watering Mexican Restaurants You Should Check Out

Craving for a taco, nacho or burrito? It’s never a bad day to indulge in some Mexican cuisine. Tacos and nachos with guacamole on the side, dripping with cheese and salsa? It’s quite difficult to say no! Fortunately, the bustling city of Singapore is also home to a plethora of Mexican restaurants.

  • Margarita’s

The name of the game is Tex-Mex, and it’s in a good manner at Margarita’s. Even the first salvo of golden corn chips smothered in a blood-red salsa of tomato, chili, and coriander is cause for celebration. A chile con queso (creamy tomato-cheese dip); flawlessly fried mushrooms in a pool of garlic sauce and pillowy home-made enchiladas cushioning fresh swimmer crabmeat with a hearty side of pinto beans, rice, and salad are among the highlights. Out on the broad, breezy verandah, sipping a lethally powerful, chilled margarita, is probably the best seat in the house. Vegetarian options are also available for almost everything on the menu.

Address: 11 Dempsey Rd, Singapore 249673

Opening Hours: 11.30am – 10.30pm daily

  • Muchachos

Muchachos adds meaty tacos, a California burrito, and a shrimp wrap inspired by Miami to the menu, while keeping the West Coast-influenced flavors. Tacos are $4.80 each, and the burrito is $12. We recommend the underappreciated cheeseburger ($12) for something unusual at a Mexican restaurant, with carne asada fries ($15) on the side for large groups sharing. To beat the heat, get some jarritos ($4.50) or horchata ($3) to round out your meal.

Address: 182 Cecil St, #01-01, Singapore 069547

Opening Hours: Mon to Sat (11am – 9pm) | Closed On Sundays

  • Piedra Negra

Live DJs and a busy crowd draw a crowd to BluJaz’s Piedra Negra Latin offshoot around the block, but it’s the cocktail-friendly Mexican fare that keeps us going back. A fresh and tangy ceviche ($13.90) is worthy of seconds, and the thick guacamole ($11.90) is made with just the right amount of lime and chilli. Relax with an after-work margarita that won’t empty your wallet today!

Address: 241 Beach Rd, Singapore 189753

Opening Hours: 12pm – 10.30pm daily

  • El Mero Mero

Mexican cuisine is frequently linked with cheap and hearty street food, but El Mero Mero takes things to the next level. In its Josper grill, meats are caressed by smoke, and handmade sauces are created from scratch. Choose from a variety of ceviches ($21), tacos ($13), and enchiladas ($27), or order a group of grilled main courses to share, such as the restaurant’s famous Atlantic octopus ($32) and El Mero Mero fajitas ($38).

Address: 30 Victoria St, #01-19 Chijmes, Singapore 187996

Opening Hours: Mon to Thur (12pm – 3pm, 5pm – 10.30pm) | Fri to Sun (12pm – 10.30pm)

  • Cha Cha Cha

Cha Cha Cha, a Mexican restaurant with 30 years of expertise in Singapore’s gourmet scene, is one you should definitely try. They feature all of your favourite Mexican delights in one place, as well as some innovative twists on traditional Mexican fare. Cha Cha Cha, for example, serves dessert nachos ($8), which are deep-fried tortillas with chocolate and mango sauce. We must admit that this is a strange mix, but we know that Cha Cha Cha can make any flavour combination work. Burrito bowls ($14 – 18) are also available if a single burrito roll isn’t enough to satisfy your hunger.

Address: 32 Lor Mambong, Singapore 277690

Opening Hours: 11.30am – 10.30pm daily

Here are some of my favourite places to visit for Mexican food. Bring your friends and family to enjoy some cheesy tacos and nachos at these Mexican restaurants while sipping on a margarita to boot.
