More Than Just Mala At Sichuan Alley With Their New Poached Rice Series

With various new creations popping out in the food scene, the wave of pao fan or poached rice is here to stay. With the new poached rice series at Sichuan Alley, be introduced to a Sichuan style pickled vegetable series that will tingle your tastebuds.

Pickled Vegetable Soup Poached Rice with Barramundi

Determined to change the mindsets of Singaporeans that Sichuan cuisine is more than just the well known and loved Mala Xiang Guo, diners can enjoy a new selection of healthier options.

With spices that are directly imported from Sichuan, each nourishing bowl of poached rice comes with mixed grains that comprises of pearl rice, pearl barley, red quinoa and oats, with a sprinkling of broccoli, tomato and kale. With three different level of spiciness to choose from (spicy, less spicy, non-spicy), diners can also choose an option that will fit their tastebuds.

The stars of the show would be the hot and sour Pickled Vegetable Soup Poached Rice with Barramundi ($13.50) or Pickled Vegetable Soup Poached Rice with Seafood that is made with Sichuan pickled vegetables and chicken stock that has is cooked over low heat for more than 8 hours to ensure a rich and flavourful broth.

Topped with a pan-fried barramundi or a combination of seafood, these dishes come served with an assortment of vegetables that includes hairy gourd, broccoli, cherry tomato, black fungus, edamame as well as rice puffs for added crunch.

For mushroom lovers, the Mushroom Chicken Soup Poached Rice ($11) comes with a variety of shiitake, white button and shimeiji mushrooms in a rich broth that comforts and warms your stomachs while the Mapo Tofu Don ($9) is a fragrant, tongue numbing dish that comes with minced pork, firm tofu, roasted cauliflower as well as a gooey ramen egg.

Looking for a place to dine with your vegetarian friends? Sichuan Alley also has a vegetarian option with their Beetroot Pickled Vegetable Soup Poached Rice ($10). This is a non-spicy option that includes beetroot puree with a medley of mushrooms along with corn and lotus root that they guarantee is an equally flavourful mainstay.
