Singapore is a city full of culture and heritage. There are several different spots in Singapore contributing to the rich culture and heritage in Singapore. Some venues include Little India, Kampong Glam, and Chinatown. With the 7th month or Hungry Ghost Festival over, you may want to check out this place with your kids to educate them on why there may have been a month long nagging on coming home late.

Many Singaporeans may know the iconic attraction that educates us about Chinese folklore, Haw Par Villa.  Now, it is good chance to refresh our memories and learn more about Chinese folklore.

About Haw Par Villa

Formerly known as Tiger Balm Garden, Haw Par Villa is a 8.5 hectare Asian cultural park, and the kind of its own in the world. The park was built in 1937 and it was Singapore’s largest outdoor gallery, the brainchild of Aw Boon Haw. He was the millionaire philanthropist and marketer who gifted the world Tiger Balm.

Since 2015, it is managed by Journeys Pte Ltd, an award-winning heritage specialist passionate and preserving and bringing the heritage venue to greater heights.

Similar But Different

Similar to before the upgrading took place, the park will still feature past sculptures such as the main arch. Many would remember heading to its main attraction which is the 10 Courts of Hell. Remembering the time when I went down to Haw Par Villa with my family, I was pretty terrified, especially at such a young age.

Now, the attraction is fully equipped with air-conditioning and has been renamed as Hell Museum and will be opening End October 2021. If you are interested to visit over the weekends, there are also several pretty new installations to check out.

A New Night Experience

Heading over to the attraction at night? Check out the new light projections at the main entrance of the attraction. You can also feast your eyes on these projections at night as well. It will definitely be a new experience for all at this newly upgraded attraction.

Apart from that, Haw Par Villa has also announced that the park will also be opening a restaurant called the Sixth Milestone! To celebrate the launch, check out their live stream on 28 October 2021 and register for a weekend full of programmes with the latest updates available on their Facebook.

With a range of wellness activities and art workshops, the gates to Hell’s Museum will be opened so come explore the park, recharge your mind and spirit, and reignite your creativity. The world’s first museum on Death and the Afterlife, will be open to the public soon so purchase your tickets from and go to hell (figuratively of course).

It has been a while since I visited the attraction and I am pretty excited to visit the upgraded one. I am also very excited for the main attraction to open its doors for visitors. Want to learn more about Chinese folklore? Head down to Haw Par Villa with your friends and family this weekend!
