Looking for a place that offers both casual and omakase dining? Borrowing its name from the Italian word for ‘gold’, La D’Oro is located in the sophisticated Mandarin Gallery mall along Orchard Road and offers all-day dining convenience along with a hidden counter-style omakase space dubbed La D’Oro Fine Dining.
An all-day dining menu is offered at La D’Oro pairing the comfort food of Italian classics with some inspiration from Japan. Look out for the daily selection of Japanese Sakoshi Bay oysters (from $16), dressed with yuzu mustard vinaigrette and Japanese seaweed rice chips or enjoy the Insalata Caprese ($28) that comes with buffalo mozzarella, San Daniele prosciutto, Italian Datterini tomato and mesclun salad.
Other must try dishes include the Tagliatele Hokkaido Snow Beef A5 Bolognese ($36) that features homemade pasta with prized Wagyu or the Pizza Bismarck ($32) that marries a Japanese poached egg, mortadella ham, mushrooms and mozzarella cheese to complete the hearty meal.
A tempting array of specialty cakes and pastries are available on display as well at the entrance of the restaurant for dine in or convenient takeaway so make sure you don’t leave empty handed!
At La D’Oro Fine Dining, a 12-seater black granite counter surrounds an open kitchen where the action takes place. Expect exciting Italian-Japanese cuisine, exquisitely presented on dramatic tableware that features the finest produce from Italy and Japan.
Made with only the best seasonal produce available, the Autumn Lunch Omakase is available at $98 (3 courses) or $158 (5 courses) while the Autumn Dinner Omakase is available at $188 (5 courses) or $258 (8 courses) respectively.
Starting off with the Amuse Bouche, small bites to start includes a riff on ‘sushi’ which sees a koshihikari rice cracker topped with lightly torched seasonal fish and ikura. Ribbons of melt-in-the-mouth Raspadura cheese from Bella Lodi, Lombardy, are then presented to diners to nibble on during the meal.
With a selection of breads that is also available, pair it with their special Aceto Balsamico and Laudemio Extra Virgin Olive Oil for a burst of flavour that is unlike the usual you may have at home.
A signature of La D’Oro is also the Linguine with Hokkaido Sea Urchin which is frequently requested by regular diners. With an irresistible combination of pasta with umami sea urchin sauce spiked with yuzu juice, topped with Sardegna bottarga and fresh sea urchin, this is a dish that is well loved and promises a taste of the ocean.
Interaction and experimentation is also encouraged by the chef in dishes such as the A4 Wagyu beef carpaccio consomme. Diners may try it ‘dry’ with Italian porcini cream and powder, or add the concentrated beef consomme for heighted flavours.
A not-so-secret final course is unlocked at the end of your lunch or dinner omakase with the Chef Special Aglio Olio. Instead of a typical olive oil based aglio olio, this special version uses a concentrated house-made stock simmered for eight hours.
100% semolina flour spaghetti is cooked with the umami-rich stock and is 100% slurp-worthy. As per the chef’s suggestion, slurping allows the diner to fully experience the flavours so eating it with chopsticks will complete the cheeky sensation of ‘having a ramen supper’.
In the desserts, local ingredients such as calamansi and jackfruit are given starring roles in a nod to their unique flavours and sense of place that will delight your tastebuds at the end.
La D’Oro restaurant’s meals are complemented by their extensive wine cellar with close to 400 different label collections. A fine selection of Italian, France and New World regions wines are offered by the glass and bottle, encompassing every important wine region in Italy from Piedmont to Tuscany.
Located in the heart of Orchard Road, La D’Oro delivers original Italian-Japanese cuisine and fine confections with the best ingredients from both countries so pay them a visit today!
