KEK Seafood Opens Second Outlet In The East At SAFRA Tampines

Continuing to serve up humble yet delicious seafood zichar dishes, Keng Eng Kee (KEK) Seafood has opened its second outlet at SAFRA Tampines. Bringing its signature zichar dishes to the East for more people to enjoy, the new 120-seater space is air-conditioned and has a view of the pool which will be a great place to bring the family for a great weekend of food and fun.

Prefer to enjoy your feast in a more intimate setting? The new outlet also includes three private dining areas that seat up to 10 pax each and can be reserved with a minimum spend of $300 per table.

Premiering a menu that features both new items as well as signature dishes that Singaporeans have come to know and love over the years, indulge in flavourful dishes that will wow your tastebuds.

We can’t mention family zi char dinners without crab and the [Tampines Exclusive] Claypot KEK-style Vermicelli Crab ($88/kg seasonal) will not disappoint. Springy vermicelli is paired with sweet fleshy mud crab tossed with scallions, fried garlic and KEK house-made seafood sauce that is immensely fragrant and light without being overly pungent.

This dish is served at the table with hot garlic oil drizzled over, adding to the overall fragrance as well as a guaranteed showstopper on any diner’s table. The dish is also not too spicy and will be well-loved by children and adults alike.

For a soup that warms and nourishes you, the [Tampines Exclusive] Claypot Premium Collagen Soup ($24.80 S; $48.80 L) serves up a soup rich in collagen with generous slices of pig’s stomach, fish maw and dried beancurd that beautifies the complexion with each serving.

Served boiling in a claypot, it is naturally sweetened with Chinese cabbage and wolfberries that also adds to your glow-up. The soup is not cloying or oily even after cooling down to room temperature and had us finishing our bowls till the last drop and asking for seconds. This is a must try for soup lovers.

For a dish that is lighter on the palate, the [Tampines Exclusive] Homemade Tofu Loofah with Sliced Fish ($18.80 S; $28.80 L) sees deep fried tofu accompanied by fresh snakehead fish slices and loofah gourd, before being doused in a creamy and savoury egg-white sauce.

For a dish that will likely convert people who do not like innards, the [Tampines Exclusive] Claypot Pig Liver with Rice ($18.80 S; $25.80 L) aims to change your mind. Lacking the sandy texture and taste, pig liver slices are fried together with ginger, scallions and onion in a piquant sauce and served in a claypot. Rice is then added to the sizzling mix that soaks up the moreish sauce for unbeatable deliciousness.

Many will find the [Tampines Exclusive] Claypot Braised Duck with Yam ($29.80 S; $49.80 L) comfortingly familiar as it uses a family recipe that has been passed down for three generations. Now served with yam in addition to chopped duck braised with sea cucumber, mushrooms and celery, this is a homey dish with tender meats that go great with rice.

Apart from the exclusive new additions, East-siders can also expect the classic favourites such as their Signature Moonlight Horfun ($7.80 S) of wok-fried seafood horfun dressed up with Chinese sausages, plump prawns and sliced fish topped off with a moon-like “raw egg”.

 For a crunchy snack, order the Golden Pearl Roll ($14.80 S) which is a creation unique to KEK that features crispy golden tofu beancurd skin stuffed with a mix of salted egg yolk, prawns, ham, mushroom and parsley, delivering different taste and textures with every bite.

Saving our favourite dish for last, the Coffee Pork Ribs ($15.80 S) is served crisp and piping hot to your table with an enticing coffee aroma. The tender pork ribs are marinated to the bone with a caramelized coffee sauce and some apple jam that balances out the bitterness of the coffee. What you get is a decadent sticky treat with a light sprinkling of sesame seeds that is both fragrant and pleasing to the eyes.
