This year, Mid-Autumn Festival will fall on September 15th here in Singapore. The festival is celebrated in many East Asian communities. In China, it is a reunion time for families, almost like Thanksgiving. While in Vietnam, it is more like children’s day.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival. It traditionally falls on the 15th day of the eighth months of the Chinese lunar calendar. This festival is the second most important festival in China after Chinese New Year. It is celebrated by the Chinese community here in Singapore by gathering for dinner and lighting paper lanterns.

One of the delicacies enjoyed on this special festival is mooncakes. Every year, hotels in Singapore will launch their mooncake flavours up for grabs. There are several different variations of this treat. Let’s take a look at some of the best mooncakes you can find here in Singapore.

JW Marriott Singapore South Beach

JW Marriott offers some of the best mooncakes you could purchase. Get their Baked Mooncake Medley (from $83.00) and have a taste of each traditional baked mooncakes they offer.

For this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, Goodwood Park Hotel will be introducing a series of uniquely flavoured mooncakes. For those who prefer something more old school, stick to the classic Baked Combo Mooncakes ($76.80) that comes with one piece each of White Lotus Seed Paste with Melon Seeds (from $43.00), White Lotus Seed Paste with Single Yolk (from $48.00) and Assorted Nuts with Ham (from $56.00).

The Peninsula Hotel

At The Peninsula Hotel, their bestselling Mini Egg Custard Mooncakes ($83.00) is wildly popular and is a signature offering of The Peninsula. This year however, The Peninsula will be launching two new irresistible mooncake flavours, conceptualised by Michelin Star Chef Tang.

These flavours are Walnut and Fig Flavoured Egg Custard and Red and South Date Lotus Seed Paste. Both of these flavours can be found in the Star Chef Mooncake Gift Box ($118). Another new offering is the Constellation Mooncake Gift Box ($120.00), a symbol of reunion.

Another hotel offering delicious mooncakes is Shangri-La Hotel. Similar to JW Marriott and Goodwood Park Hotel, Shangri-la Hotel offers both traditional mooncakes and snowskin mooncakes. Indulge in their traditional mooncakes, 4 pieces in each box ($78.00).
