There are plenty of cafes here in Singapore, perfect stops for brunch and tea-time. We have the usuals, Starbucks and Coffee Bean, but we also have French cafes, Italian cafes and Japanese cafes.
One particular Japanese café is very unique if you ask me compared to the other Japanese cafes in Singapore. It has also recently opened its new outlet at Craig Road, serving some of their exclusive menu items to their customers. Let’s have a look inside Hvala Japanese Café and some of its exclusive items.
Hvala Japanese Café
Hvala aspires to create a platform for the modern-day Picasso and Hemingway to gather. It is a place for conversation and tea while igniting your artistic, intellectual and flavour tastebuds all at once. They present to you a story of a pursuit of extraordinariness and forward-thinking through galleries, performances and tea.
The Arts is a large part of Hvala and they aspire for something bigger. They believe that art offers imagination that is beyond the tangibles. Hvala aims to be a platform where artists can gather to appreciate the nuances of slowing down.
Tea is a huge part of Japan and since Hvala is a Japanese café, you can expect some of the finest Japanese tea the café has to offer. Sip their tea while engaging in meaningful conversations with the people around you. Maybe even start a conversation with a stranger. Who knows, you may have just started a new friendship.
Menu
There is a total of 4 Hvala outlets in Singapore, including the recently opened outlet in Craig Road. However, what sets the outlets apart is the menu.
Warabi Mochi
At the new outlet, you can expect delicious desserts such as their Warabi Mochi ($4.80). Have a taste of their popular Kinako Warabi Mochi or explore their other flavours such as Matcha, Hojicha, Goma and Yuzu. Each of these flavours is served with Japanese kuromitsu (black sugar).
You can also have your Warabi Mochi with Gelato (from $4.00). These melt-in-your-mouth pillows will be served with a gelato flavour of your choice (oatmilk or matcha).
Desserts Selection
Apart from the Warabi Mochi, you can also try out their other desserts such as Dairy-Free Waffles ($11.80). These are dairy-free waffles drizzles with maple syrup and served with a scoop or either oatmilk or matcha gelato. It is then topped off with a sprinkle of genmai (toasted rice).
Are you a fan of brownie? Indulge in their Matcha Blondie with Gelato ($12.80). It is everything you love about fudge chocolate brownie, except its matcha. It is also served with a scoop of gelato and topped with matcha sauce.
Other desserts include Fudgy Chocolate Brownie with Gelato ($12.80), Chaffogato ($7.80) and Hanami Dango ($8.80).
Sliced Cakes
Going down the menu, the café offers a selection of sliced cakes ($9.80). Their most popular is their Goma sliced cake. It is layers of toasty and nutty sesame sponge and cream that has a rich yet mellow fragrance.
Another favourite is their Banana Peanut Butter Walnut Cake. It is a moist and vegan banana walnut sponge layered with peanut butter cream frosting. Other cake flavours include Matcha, Hojicha and Chocolate Velvet.
