How Can Your Diet Help Reduce Stress And Anxiety?

Being anxious can make you feel unwell. Coping with anxiety can be a challenge and often requires making lifestyle changes. There are numerous causal factors of stress in the body, which include external pressures such as work or domestic responsibilities, as well as internal pressures such as our immune and digestive systems.

There aren’t any diet changes that can cure anxiety, however watching what you eat might help. As far as we know from old wives tale, foods naturally rich in magnesium, therefore, help a person to feel calmer. Here are some diets that could relieve your stress or anxiety.

  1.  Breakfast with some protein

As common as it seems, many tends to skip breakfast knowing that it is the most important meal of the day. As the name suggests, breakfast breaks the overnight fasting period. It replenishes your supply of glucose to boost your energy levels and alertness, while also providing other essential nutrients required for good health.  When you’re hungry, you tend to be grumpy and irritable. Your body is running on empty because it needs fuel. This affects your entire system. Therefore having protein for breakfast can help you feel fuller for longer and keep your blood sugar stable, giving you more energy to start your day.

2. Herbal Tea

Herbal Tea Helps Promote Feelings of Warmth and Calmness

Past research has suggested that holding and sipping a warm beverage increases feelings of interpersonal “warmth” and friendliness. There’s a soothing effect of sipping a warm drink, regardless of the flavour so why not add a cup of tea to you daily life?

3. Berries

These have lots of antioxidants, which help protect your cells from stress and may help ease feelings of depression. You can get them from nuts, beans, walnuts, or green vegetables, too.

4. Coffee

How to tap into the health benefits of coffee

A tricky one which can be a blessing or a curse. A couple of cups of black coffee a day may boost your mood and energy, and up to four cups seems to be OK for most people. But more than that can make you jittery and anxious, and some people are more sensitive to it. So do remember to be more cautious with your intake

5.Red wine

One of the main reasons why we could sneak in a glass of red wine into our routine. This can be good or bad, depending on how much you have. A drink or two can relax some people, but too much can rewire your brain and make you more anxious. Therefore do take note and limit yourself with the intake! Heavy drinking could potentially cause problems at work, home, and with your health that lead to more anxiety. No more than one drink a day for women, two for men, is a healthy rule of thumb.

Food can be one of your biggest allies — or enemies. It can make your stress levels go down or up, so it’s critical to pay attention to what you’re eating when you’re feeling frazzled. With that being said, which above is your favourite adjustment to your meal?
