Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu One Holland Village is finally here. The largest gyukatsu specialist from Japan now has a second Singapore outlet after Raffles City. Expect the same medium-rare beef cutlets, a personal konro grill, and free-flow rice and cabbage. Sets start from $25++. Short lines, big flavours, and a cosy Kyoto feel.

Why Everyone Loves This Gyukatsu

Born in Kyoto in 2014, Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu built a loyal following with its signature crisp-outside, pink-inside beef cutlets. Each steak is coated in a koromo batter (a secret golden ratio of breadcrumbs, flour, and egg). It is then deep-fried at a precise temperature in fresh oil changed daily. The result: clean flavours, a light crunch, and juicy, marbled beef.

Prefer a deeper sear? Place the slices on your personal konro (traditional earthenware grill) and finish to your favourite doneness. It is interactive, fun, and simple. No fuss. Just good beef, done right.

Why One Holland Village? The mall is lively. It has a strong Japanese F&B cluster. It is perfect for quick lunch sets, casual dates, and family treats. Also, regulars can skip the constant queues at the first Raffles City outlet and head straight here.

Must-Order Sets & Prices

All sets come with free-flow rice, free-flow cabbage, Aka miso soup, Kyoto-style curry, spicy chilli miso, dashi soy, sansho pepper salt, fresh wasabi, and a signature onsen egg. Value is strong. Choice is wide.

  • Sirloin Gyukatsu Zen — $25 (single) / $40 (double)
The Kyoto classic. Tender and juicy with a gentle beefy sweetness. Cooked low and slow to lock in flavour. Double if you are hungry.

  • Half-and-Half Gyukatsu Zen — $29 / $32
Best of both worlds. Pair Sirloin with either Tenderloin, Chuck Flap (haneshita), Beef Tongue, or Miyazaki A5 Sirloin. Great for first-timers who want to taste around.

  • Beef Tongue Gyukatsu Zen — $37
Thick-cut, buttery, and satisfyingly chewy. Add the house chilli pepper miso for a warm, savoury kick.

  • A5 Miyazaki Sirloin Gyukatsu Zen — $55
The premium pick. Exceptionally marbled Wagyu that has won Japan’s Wagyu Olympics multiple times. Melt-in-your-mouth luxury.

Not into beef today?

  • Seafood Katsu Zen — $32: Plump prawns, fresh scallops, and a juicy salmon cutlet, all in extra-crisp raw breadcrumbs.

  • Yasai Tempura Zen — $25: A bright, crunchy veggie medley, carefully hand-prepared in-house.

Tip: You can upgrade many gyukatsu sets to a Half-and-Half with your preferred cuts.

What to order by mood

  • First visit: Half-and-Half (Sirloin + Tenderloin) — safe and balanced.

  • Crave rich flavour: Sirloin or Chuck Flap (haneshita) — more marbling, more oomph.

  • Something different: Beef Tongue — buttery and bold.

  • Treat yourself: A5 Miyazaki — celebration-worthy.

How to Enjoy It Like a Pro

Maximise flavour with small tweaks. It is easy and fun.

  1. Start pure. Try one slice plain to taste the beef.

  2. Onsen egg gloss. Crack the egg and coat a slice for silky richness.

  3. Wasabi heat. Dab on fresh wasabi to brighten the fat.

  4. Umami lift. Dip lightly in dashi soy.

  5. Zing. Sprinkle sansho pepper salt for a citrusy tingle.

  6. Comfort finish. Spoon Kyoto-style curry over hot rice.

  7. Custom sear. Use the konro to add char to your liking.

Pro tips

  • Thin vs. thick slices: Thinner slices crisp more; thicker slices stay juicier inside.

  • Pace yourself: Alternate between crisp cutlet, cabbage, and rice to keep each bite fresh.

  • Sharing? Go for two different sets and swap pieces for variety.

The Vibe: Kyoto, Right Here

The One Holland Village restaurant channels Noren and Gion Matsuri streetscapes with warm lanterns and soft light. It feels like an everyday kappo—relaxed, welcoming, and unpretentious. Refined furnishings and warm fixtures keep things cosy. Service is brisk and friendly. Expect a comfortable experience, whether it is a weekday lunch, date night, or a family meal.

Menu Highlights

  • Crispy koromo batter with a secret golden ratio.

  • Medium-rare by default, then finish on your personal konro.

  • Fresh oil changed daily for clean, crisp flavours.

  • Free-flow sides to round out the meal.
