Durian is one of the most controversial fruits out there in the market. Some people love it to the extent that they will queue up to purchase it while some people hate it to the extreme where they don’t even like the smell of it. And of course, I am part of the latter. Bittersweet taste along with a sticky, creamy texture that is easy on the palate are some of the descriptions a durian connoisseur will give when they have had a good durian.
I can’t appreciate durian due to the pungent smell they have and even passing by a durian stall is a challenge to me. However, for this durian season, I have done my research and tried out some durians from different stalls that offer quality durians.
227 Katong Durian
This well-established durian store is famous for D13 in all its bittersweet and creamy glory. They receive their durians fresh from Muar, Pahang and Johor and as a plus point, they also carry other fresh fruits and juices. Starting out as a makeshift stall by the roadside, their quality durians and regular customers, have ‘upgraded’ them to a shophouse at East Coast Road. This would allow them to serve more customers and allow durian lovers to enjoy these thorny fruits in a comfortable setting.
Apart from the wide variety of durians, 227 Katong Durian fans can also enjoy quality durian ice cream, durian mochi on a daily basis and durian snowskin mooncakes seasonally.

99 Old Trees
99 Old Trees gets their durians directly from Fook Gor Durian Farm in Malaysia. The staffs are honest in their dealings and they will take a step further to swap out the bad seeds so that each customer would receive good-quality ones. They offer a wide variety of durian from Black Gold Mao Shan Wang, Jin Feng, Red Prawn, D13 and many more. Plus, Mao Shan Wang pulp and durian desserts are also available to satisfy all your cravings.

This iconic stall that is located at Balestier is popular among locals and tourists. They usually sell out often by the early evening due to the high demand they have. Ah Seng Durian
Undoubtedly one of the more popular durian stores in Singapore, they offer different types of durians at an affordable price point and hence, they are highly sought-after. For those who do not know, they have established Durian Lab Cafe, where you can enjoy the durian cakes and durian desserts in a nice cozy setting as well.
