With 20 new offerings, Sushi Tei is set to showcase a bountiful selection of autumn produce during its peak season. Known for its fresh and quality food, you will not be disappointed with the taste of their premium dishes that will deliver bold and exciting renditions of classic Japanese dishes.
Sushi Tei’s Taste the Autumn Menu will be available from 15 September to 7 December 2021 so head on down to try these dishes before they are gone!
Appetizers
Unsure of where to start? Go for the Sashimi Moriawase “Nagasaki” 4 Kinds ($27.80) that comes with 4 types of assorted cuts namely Sake Madai, Salmon, Yellowtail and Sweet Shrimp. The star of the show would be the Sake Madai, which is a fish that is exclusively bred for Sushi Tei restaurants! With a starting chewy bite that then melts into a velvety texture in your mouth, this is a sashimi one should not miss.
You can never go wrong with salmon as it was fresh with a milky aftertaste while the yellowtail is a tad more mellow. The sweet shrimp on the other hand is a bit too mushy for my liking but the zesty lemon added a kick and brought out the freshness of the shrimp.
If sashimi is not your thing, The Aki Wafu Carpaccio Roll ($10.80) comes with fresh greens coated in a Japanese vinaigrette sauce that was light and refreshing or you can start with a warm Una Ikura Chawanmushi ($8.80). If you have had chawanmushi at a Japanese restaurant before, think of this as an elevated version where the flavours are further enhanced with meaty bites of tender unagi and ikura that lends an extra pop of flavour. Unagi can be tasted with each spoonful of silky steamed eggs along with the usual chicken, mushroom and crabstick added to the mix.
The Sanshoku Hana Roll ($9.80) features a trio of bluefin tuna, Sake Madai and Salmon marinated with a spicy homemade sauce that tastes great on its own. For those who want to take it up a notch, add some wasabi for extra kick and depth of flavour.
Mains & Side Dishes
Another autumn specialty is the exquisite, melt-in-your-mouth Maruzen Craft Wagyu in the Volcano A4 Wagyu Don ($27.80). The highly sought-after wagyu hails from Maruzen Farm, Kagoshima Prefecture, with meats that boast excellent marbling and an unmatched texture.
Mix the runny egg yolk with the beef and ensure that every grain of rice is coated with the sweet and salty brown sauce before eating. Although the chunks of pan-fried striploin were well done, they still retained a tender bite while the seared A4 Kagoshima wagyu slices were smoky and melts in your mouth. With so many different textures at play, pairing all these ingredients is a match made in heaven.
Other side dishes to try include the Chestnut Buta Yaki ($8.80) where the premium selecta pork belly has streaks of fat that were juicy and flavourful. Along with some tender squid and crunchy asparagus that adds depth to the range of flavours, a special sauce is added that balances out the dish with a slighty nutty aftertaste.
The favourite dish of all has got to be the Mini Kaisen Pizza ($8.80) that is topped with shrimp, squid and baby scallop. Using a deep fried gyoza skin as its base, the crispy crust, chewy squid and shreds of scallop and shrimp goes well together like a mini okonomiyaki. For those who have been to Japan, it is similar to the balls of takoyaki you can find on the streets of Japan which is extremely soft with a potentially liquid centre and some crispy bits to elevate the overall mouth feel. This is definitely a must share in our books!
Dessert
To end off on a sweet note, the Kuri Shiratama Azuki ($7.50) is presented like an oyster shell with a scoop of Chestnut gelato. This dish tastes mostly like caramel ice cream with chestnut bits and is paired with sweet red bean and mochi. For those who don’t mind getting their hands a little dirty, we would recommend mixing and sandwiching all the ingredients together with the wafer shell so that you can get a bite of everything for a perfect finish.
