Looking for new food items to try? Get a taste of Japan as Shizuoka Prefecture will be collaborating with Singapore Home Cooks to bring in specialities made with natural resources found in Fuji and Izu Peninsula! Available only on 1 November 2021 (8pm), the array of sake, snacks, sweets, green tea and wine makes the perfect companion for your relaxation time at home.

As the most iconic mountain in Japan with an altitude of 3,776 metres, Mount Fuji attracts hordes of tourists from all around the world. The pure and smooth water from its melting snow is used for Shizuoka’s fresh prefectural products as well as sake.

Just as mesmerising is the Izu Peninsula, a UNESCO World Geopark filled with many natural wonders. It is a place where the mountains are steep and still inaccessible, and where the water is clear, fresh and abounding with fish.

Although travel to Japan is still not possible at the moment, bringing Singaporeans a little closer Mount Fuji is the Junmai Ginjo Fujisan Gold Box produced by the 278-year-old Makino Brewery Sake, who uses the soft water from Mount Fuji to produce a gentle sake with a hint of sweetness. Best served chilled, the fruity and refreshing beverage pairs well with Chinese food.

Want something a little stronger? Unwind with Izu Wine Brewery’s New Summer Orange Liquor, made with 100% new summer oranges from the Izu Peninsula that will go great with some refreshing soda water and ice cubes that will taste exceptionally good in this heatwave.

For some snacks to pair with the alcohol, the light and crispy Fujisan Shortbread is made with fresh eggs laid by hens reared at the foot of Mount Fuji and boasts a delicate sweetness with loads of buttery notes. For your friends or family that have been to Japan, this would be a great gift that comes shaped like Mount Fuji for them to reminisce their time overseas.

For those who want some kick in their snacks, the Shinmarusho’s Bonito & Wasabi Flavoured Potato Chips with Dried Bonito Shavings is a collaboration with a renowned wasabi shop in Shizuoka prefecture and it is recommended to pair them with alcohol.

If alcohol is not your thing, don’t miss out on making your own authentic Japanese matcha latte experience at home with the green tea in Kisakuen’s Fuji First-Flush Matcha Shaker Set! The matcha is ground in a stone mortar to produce a rich colour and aroma and the set comes with a shaker. Add some milk to the matcha powder and easily make your matcha shakes at home too!

These items along with many other prized Shizuoka products will be available for sale to the public via Singapore Home Cooks Facebook group live show on 1 November 2021 8pm. Enjoy these specialities now, and when international travel returns once again, be sure to visit the prefecture and get them in person yourself!
