Travelling to Malaysia is already possible but not everyone has had the time to make a quick escape to our neighbouring country as of yet. If you are craving for Malaysian tze char but haven’t had the time to cross the causeway for it, Crown Prince Kitchenette invites you for a taste of true Malaysian Tze Char/Chinese cuisine located in the heart of Singapore at United Square.
Enjoy favorites like Signature Crispy “Chao Ta” Beehoon with Seafood ($10.80) and Claypot Herbal Bak Kut Teh ($28.80 for 2 pax) specially prepared by a team of chefs who hail from Malaysia so you are assured of the real, authentic taste.
Its not easy to prepare a crispy beehoon while emitting plenty of wok hei smokiness to go with juicy seafood piled on top but the Signature Crispy Chao Ta Beehoon here manages to do just that. Pair it with their delicious sambal for an extra kick that pairs well with any dish you may order.
If you are a fan of the Claypot Herbal Bak Kut Teh store located opposite KSL Mall in JB, you will be delighted to know that Crown Prince Kitchenette’s iteration of the broth is thicker and richer with the savouriness of meat and laced with the nourishing fragrance of herbs. Slow-cooked for hours with a secret blend of herbs and spices, this dish is currently only available for lunch as a set meal for two with a side of vegetables, braised peanuts and fried dough fritters.
You can’t have tze char without a serving of vegetable included and the Spinach & Clams in Broth ($12.80) is a refreshing change to the usual sambal kangkong. With fresh clams and spinach with a trio of century, salted and regular egg in a clear broth, this is a light yet umami filled dish that will have you slurping to the last drop.
For a contemporary dish that is out of the ordinary, the Golden Prawns with Popcorn ($16.80) comes coated with a delectable butter sauce with the addition of popcorn that lends an extra creaminess and crunch for a sweet and savoury dish found nowhere else.
A seafood dish that is great for sharing on a cold rainy day is the Three Delicacies in Garlic & Ginger Broth ($98). With an assortment of prawns, clams and a steamed fish topped with garlic and ginger, the dish is served in a hotpot that allows the broth to continue bubbling and absorbing all the essence of fresh seafood as you consume your meal.
Other crowd favourites include the Signature Yellow Wine Chicken in Claypot ($16.80) that nourishes your body and the Steamed Patin Fish in Special Nyonya Sauce ($58.00) that invokes all the best flavours to enjoy the fish. For the children, get the Chicken Lollipop with Cereal ($14.80) which comes showered with flavourful crispy and fragrant cereal that goes great with a bowl of rice.
For dessert, sweeten things off with a chilled and refreshing Mango Sago ($5.00) or opt for the Yam Paste with Pumpkin Sauce ($5.00). Steering away from the conventional orh nee, this dessert is served with a fragrant pumpkin sauce instead of coconut cream for a lighter and healthier version of this traditional dessert.
