Hailing all the way from Hokkaido, Japan, Baristart Coffee first started out as a simple coffee stand. Today, Baristart Coffee has evolved into a lifestyle café serving up a full-range menu including breakfast mainstays that will wow your tastebuds in Singapore.
Begin your day right with the Big Breakfast ($27.80), that comprises of an assortment of omelette, steak bacon, grilled pork sausage, mushrooms, sourdough with seaweed butter spread and tatter tots. Adding some vegetables to round the plate out is some vine cherry tomatoes and arugula with a sweet-tangy raspberry Pommery mustard dressing.
For a unique Japanese twist to the usual brunch fare, we highly recommend the umami goodness of Roku Kinoko ($22.80) that comes with a thick slab of toasted sourdough generously spread with seaweed butter.
Stacked with six types of mushroom sauteed with hijiki (wild seaweed) and homemade sweet sauce, parma ham, poached eggs are also added before being topped with torched mentaiko mayonnaise. This is a savoury delight with an explosion of flavours that will greatly impress your mouth and stomachs.
The classic Croque Monsieur ($24.80) gets a sophisticated spin here as well. Kurobuta ham is layered, drenched in a parsnip Hokkaido milk white bechamel sauce and topped with a generous blend of gruyere cheese and matured cheddar for a creamy finish. For those who love a sunny side up to brighten your days, opt for the Croque Madame ($26.80) instead which is similar to the Croque Monsieur but enlivened with a golden runny yolk on top.
For a small twist on the standard Eggs Benedict ($22.80), that usually comes with poached eggs, parma ham and a spoon of hollandaise sauce, pink peppercorns that are a little tangy in taste are added for a bright and not too jelak finish with each mouthful. The eggs sit on top a bed of fresh avocado salsa and is accompanied by vine cherry tomatoes, Romanesco and garden salads with karashi dressing.
If the breakfast mainstays do not fill you up, add on a Smoked Duck Salad ($17.80) that is served with cherry tomatoes and US asparagus. The ingredients are pulled together by a refreshing raspberry Pommery mustard dressing that is refreshing.
Another not-to-be-missed highlight is the Baristart Wagyu Burger ($26.80). While wagyu is delicious on its own, have you ever had a deep-fried version of it? The homemade juicy patty is shaped by hand, coated in crunchy breadcrumbs being before fried to golden perfection. In one bite, take in the flavours of the patty, smoked cheddar, baby spinach, sliced tomato and shio kombu! With a juicy and tender patty, this is a must share with your family and friends!
Apart from the delicious food, this is also the place where you can get the best of smooth, rich Hokkaido milk and high-quality coffee beans in your coffee. As the first café in Singapore to offer BIEI Jersey Milk from Hokkaido, their Latte ($6.70) is exceptionally good and creamy.
For those who prefer tea, a unique choice is their Txpresso Latte ($7.50), where your choice of tea leaf – Txpresso, Early Grey, Rooibos or Hojicha is extracted using the coffee machine instead.
From coffee to desserts and savouries, Baristart Coffee prides itself on its use of pure uncompromising quality of Hokkaido dairy that is both rich and creamy with a tinge of sweetness.
