With viral social media platforms like Instagram and Tiktok nowadays, information circulates like wildfire online, and trends constantly come and go. A person posts a picture of them wearing a certain style of clothing on Instagram and suddenly, everyone’s wearing the same thing.
It’s safe to say that young people’s fashion nowadays are notably inspired by fashion icons from the 90s, such as characters like Rachel and Monica in F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Let’s explore which fashion trends from the past have make a comeback recently.

Platform Shoes
From Converse Chuck 70’s and Doc Martens to Fila Disruptors, people all around the world are bringing platform, or ‘chunky’ shoes back in trend. While the classic Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars high tops have never gone out of style, the added twist to them in the form of platforms in the Chuck 70’s, and the chunky sole of the Converse Run Star Hike are evidence that platform shoes are making a comeback in the 2020s.

Bike Shorts
The trend of wearing biker shorts for fashion was inspired by Princess Diana back in the 90s, was made popular in recent times by our favourite TV sensation Kim Kardashian, and started gaining traction in 2019. Not only is it one of the most comfortable bottoms to wear, they are easy to find and style.
Effortlessly stylish and chic, bike shorts are still ever-present today and are a go-to for a laid-back casual look. Pair your bike shorts with an oversized T-shirt and chunky shoes, and you’ll have an cute outfit comfortable enough to be worn the entire day.

Loose Jeans
In recent times, people have moved on from the skinny jeans phase that lasted throughout the 2000s, and are now starting to wear looser, more comfortable jeans. Popular fashion brands such as Bershka have since kept up with this comeback and released their own collections of loose-fit jeans, including mom jeans, straight-leg jeans, flare jeans and balloon jeans. Some are also opting for acid-washed jeans for a more vintage look.

Sweater Vests
Sweater vests were popular in 90s fashion, and were commonly seen on television show characters like Rachel Green from F.R.I.E.N.D.S and Cher Horowitz from Clueless. These sweater vests have recently come back into trend, with many wearing a basic white top or collared shirt underneath it, and pairing it with a tennis skirt. It’s also common to see others wearing the vest alone with neck accessories for a chic summer look.

Headbands
Headbands have never really gone out of style either, but those chunky headbands worn in 90s teen chick flicks have seen a spike in popularity with the comeback of 90s fashion in the 2020s. As more and more people adopt the 90s style, the accessories they use follow as such, and thus we see headbands making a comeback as well. Most people match their outfits with thick one-tone headbands, while letting a few face-framing strands hang freely.
