Al Azhar
This coffee shop is always busy on any given night as it’s open 24 hours a day (before Covid-19), making it a popular stop for supper and post clubbing grub. Happy and hungry patrons dig into traditional local fare before washing all the spice down with a Milo Dinosaur ($3.30) or Teh Cino ($3.30). The plain prata ($1.10) here is a little more doughy then other which is great for soaking in the free curry. If you would like something fancier, we recommend going for their luscious butter chicken ($7) which is not too spicy as well.

Despite the store’s name, their egg prata ($1.50) is the true star here being made with house made dough, fresh eggs and a whole lot of love. If you just had eggs for breakfast, then go for the cheese prata ($2) made with thick slices of cheese guaranteeing the perfect cheese stretch for your Instagram stories.

It explains it all in the name, and you can expect the crispiest of pratas here.
On the exterior, the plain pratas ($1) are very crispy, but on the inside, they’re considerably fluffy. The prata’s crispiness might not sound like a good reason to travel all the way there, but that’s one of the reasons why people keep coming back to this Joo Chiat treasure.

There are more than 80 other types of prata to select from, including milo ($4.50), durian($6), and even a bomb cheese kaya prata ($6.50) but we recommend sticking to the coin prata set if it’s your first time ($7), because you can spend hours looking at the menu but still be at lost due to the overwhelming options.

It is perhaps the finest spot on the list for the most unusual prata creations, but sometimes the bizarre concoctions are so good that they become staples people pick. With all the items on the menu, go for their giant Murtaburger ($7.90), which is a prata filled with a burger patty and plenty of cheese. The Prata Blaster ($5) is a crispy prata version of eggs benedict, and the Umami 50 ($8.90), an egg prata with luncheon meat, cheese, chicken floss, and mayo.
