The ArtScience Museum is unveiling a lineup of highly anticipated exhibitions for 2024, marking it as the Year of Extraordinary Women. The forthcoming shows aim to delve into, celebrate, and unveil the narratives of women whose lives have left an indelible mark on society over the decades.
These exhibitions span from spotlighting inspiring artists and screen legends to powerful female characters featured in iconic animation studio films.
In April, the spotlight will shine on “Goddess“, a compelling exhibition curated by ACMI, Australia’s national museum of screen culture. This glamorous and powerful showcase explores the lives of iconic women in film and television who have challenged expectations and influenced perceptions of femininity.
Following its successful debut in Melbourne, the exhibition will traverse 120 years of moving image history, presenting surprising stories, costumes, sketches, interactive experiences, and cinematic treasures.
May brings forth “Frida Kahlo: The Life of an Icon“, an immersive exhibition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the influential Mexican painter’s passing.
Developed by Layers of Reality and Frida Kahlo Corporation, this unique biographical experience transports visitors into Kahlo’s iconic artworks, exploring themes of identity, the human body, and death.
The grand finale in October is “The World of Studio Ghibli“, an immersive showcase that celebrates the renowned Japanese animation studio’s beloved films, featuring interactive sets from iconic movies such as My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.
Studio Ghibli’s exploration of humanist topics and the portrayal of strong, independent and complex female characters, aligning perfectly with the Year of Extraordinary Women theme and is one not to be missed by fans.
The ArtScience Museum’s commitment to celebrating women extends beyond these exhibitions, with the ongoing “New Eden: Science Fiction Mythologies Transformed” exhibition challenging the traditionally male-dominated sci-fi genre through the lens of 24 women artists and collectives from Asia till 3 March 2024.
