Awkward gym workouts? Gym memberships hurting your pocket? That’s where The Gym Pod comes in. The Gym pod is the brainchild of Damian Chow, who created The Gym Pod as a solution that provides gym-goers with privacy and availability of equipment.
The Gym Pod was created in June 2018 and since then, it has grown to have pods in 15 locations across Singapore. These locations are selected to ensure that they are accessible to all as The Gym Pod encourages people to exercise wherever you are.
The Gym Pods are built using repurposed shipping containers, and staff at PSA can definitely tell you, these containers are huge! Each container can easily accommodate the following stations:
- Cardio Station (a threadmill and sometimes a stationary bike and elliptical)
- Strength Conditioning Station (contains smith machine, cable machine, power rack and cable area)
- Dumbbell Rack
- Bodyweight training equipment (yoga mats, exercise bands and balls)
That is a lot of equipment to fit into 1 shipping container.
The fully airconditioned space was made for privacy when exercising and the pods come with a whole suite of safety and accessibility functions to ensure you are safe and clean inside the pod.
All users will need to book a session on their app, available on the App store and Google Play store.
Session timings and availability booking are all done on the app. Once you are ready for your session, proceed to the pod to check in. Users can only unlock the pod door from their phone after they have taken their temperature on each pod’s no-touch thermal scanner to ensure all temperatures are below 37.5 degrees. If that is not enough, a professional cleaning crew is hired to clean the pods 6 times a week, focusing on high touchpoint areas, and to coat these areas with anti-microbial material.
Besides The Gym Pod, Damian has also created a new pod called The Spin Pod with elliptical and a large screen of follow along to high intensity spin classes. Prices at the spin pod vary slightly from The Gym Pod so do download the app to ensure the latest updated pricing.
