Looking for sustainable options to swap out your everyday food with? ANEW is a new homegrown brand specialising in 100% plant-based food products that aims to make irresistible foods healthier. Their flagship plant-based luncheon meat is perfect for health-conscious consumers who want to enjoy luncheon meat but are concerned about the lack of nutrients.
There are currently 3 flavours: Classic, Black Pepper and Barbecue (BBQ). ANEW’s plant-based, non-GMO substitute is high in protein, free of trans fat and has no added preservatives. For those concerned with the specifics, each 100g serving of ANEW Classic has 176kcal, 16.8g of protein, 9.8g of fat and 4.9g of dietary fibre. This makes ANEW the lowest-calorie, lowest-fat plant-based luncheon meat in the market!
The luncheon meat is made using wheat, soy protein, vegetable juice and Eucheuma seaweed. It boasts the same texture and mouthfeel as real luncheon meat while allowing you to reduce your carbon footprint and preserve water and land!
You can use ANEW’s luncheon meat the same way you would use any meat-based luncheon meat. We tried a few dishes using this ingredient, prepared by the chefs at The Hainan Story Chapter One.
Luncheon Fried Rice
This fried rice used ANEW’s BBQ flavour, and the first thing we noticed was the distinctive smoky flavour of the luncheon meat, which added extra depth to the dish. The BBQ flavour is extremely suitable for plainer dishes that could use the boost of flavour such as sandwiches and frittatas.
Sweet and Sour Luncheon Claypot
The Sweet and Sour Luncheon Claypot used the Classic flavour. It was the perfect choice and absorbed the strong flavours of the sauce well. We also tried the Classic flavour plain as luncheon fries, and were pretty impressed by how similar the texture and taste was to meat-based luncheon meat!
We also tried the Black Pepper flavour as luncheon fries. It had an extra peppery kick that added an extra brightness to the classic luncheon flavour, making it a great way to add an additional subtle layer of flavour to dishes like Korean army stew or Hong Kong-style Chan Dan Mian (餐蛋麵)!
